Speaking as someone who was NEET for 4 years and is now working full time I can definitely tell you the NEET lifestyle is only temporary bliss.
The shame of never fulfilling your ambition or making your parents proud gnaws away at you. The worst part is knowing there is a point of no return for being a NEET and I came close to crossing it. There's a point from which you can withdraw yourself from society for so long that you'll never be able to step back in, both for your own adjustment and an employer actually taking a chance on someone who has done nothing but watch anime and eat doritos for the past half decade or more.
I was lucky that I had a degree and was young, a 25 year spending 4 years travelling and "experiencing life" or whatever is at least a plausible story someone might buy.
If you're 33 and living with your parents or in welfare housing and with no track record of employment it's going to be hard to convince anyone that you are capable of contributing to their business.
The reality is NEETdom is the first step towards early suicide, I think it'd become too much for most people once they leave their twenties and discover their life options to be effectively zero. No matter how much you believe otherwise, you won't want to sit at home alone watching anime for the next 60 years.

Most people lie or exaggerate, Senior software developers are very well paid but it requires at least 4 years college and a few years as a junior developer (if you're lucky, longer if starting on support or testing). I doubt their are many or even r9k posters with that sort of time and effort application to achieve that by a young enough age for 4chan to still be a relevant place for them to visit.
I'm a Junior software developer as an entry level position from leaving college for a well known IT company and I get 3.5k a month, I don't know anyone from my course whos earning any more.

when i interviewed for a job at a gas station earlier this year the manager asked me if i was old enough to sell alcohol and i told him i was 24. he replied "you're not supposed to tell us your age." i don't know how it is in other states, but apparently here they're not allowed to ask you how old you are? obviously, you can still get a sense of someone's age from looking at them but it's not like it's 100% accurate, for instance i probably look older because i'm going bald.
