appreciation thread for this train loving robot
>most likely autism or asparagus
>only responds to people with a train pic attached
>obscene obsessiveness with trains
>most likely is sexually attracted to trains
>>25230899
do you like old fashioned steam trains like pic related?
>>25230899
>>25231199
0 idea why mods removed your post, you're my fav tripfriend
look man, you've got to stop. you're not going to make me leave this board, I'll just keep waiting out the blocks/bans and returning. I'll admit I've been a bit harsh, but only because I feel wronged too. can we call a truce on this?
phew, seems to have gone
>>25230967
yeah, I do. I also enjoy modern EMUs though
anyone want to post some trains?
or repost my pics, I don't mind
>>25230823
Holy shit, a train thread?
I like steam, diesel, and electric.
I love me those 12 riving wheels.
54m50n are you Trainwiz on the nexus modding scene?
I don't really like trains, but posting to appreciate 54m50n anyways since it can't be easy being that autistic
Trains are cool.
>>25232847
no. I tried to make a mod for oblivion once, but it sucked so I didn't publish it or make any more
>>25232780
sure, this one's from around where I live
>>25232889
post more Canadian trains
>>25232852
I'm glad someone appreciates my autism
Former RR worker. Had enough of trains tyvm.
Trains are everything I wish I was. On track, on time, strong, powerful, and cool.
>>25232935
exactly. everyone should strive to be like a train
>>25232925
which railroad? got any cool stories?
i'm taking a long train ride tomorrow. gonna be riding from the northwest into the bay area. nice thred.
>>25232986
LIRR in NY. Passenger service. Worked a lot of diesel jobs. Don't know what kind of story you want. What comes to mind is the winter with snowstorms every week. Ice built up so much that when we ran the engine around the WYE it came off the rails and onto the ice. A multi-ton engine sitting on a sheet of ice in the yard, if you can imagine that.
Can we also have some incel manlet appreciation while we're at it?
freight aside there isn't much rail action around here, it's kind of a shame, but the population just isn't dense enough I guess
>>25233079
taking the coast starlight then?
how is that? always wanted to do it
>>25233107
Freight trains are the most fun to watch, though.
I too am a RR worker. I'm a railcar repairman who works on tank cars and hopper cars. I will share a trivial fact: tank cars come in two varieties, general purpose and high pressure. They look almost identical, but the high pressure cats actually have a layer of insulation sandwiched between the inner tank and an outer jacket of sheet metal. Much of my time is spent cutting out sections of the jacket to replace worn out insulation. Also, when cars go through our shop, we paint over the graffiti.

>Ice built up so much that when we ran the engine around the WYE it came off the rails and onto the ice
that sounds brutal. what sort of job did you do?
>>25233176
ever have to paint over some real murals, or is all the graffiti just tags?
>>25233129
ya, empire builder first tho. i've never been on it so i'll let you know. i haven't been posting much recently but i'll post about it in some train thread in the future, probably two weeks from now.
>>25233176
I hate graffiti. It ruins the look of my trains reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
>>25233221
We've got a car in the shop right now with a large mural of a wolf which covers the entire side of the car, but smaller tags are more common. One interesting thing about the graffiti is that some vandals are very prolific. There is one guy in particular whose tags are on almost half of the cars we get, and have been for as long as I've been working. The graffiti is small and simple, but his characters are well-drawn with a clean style, and a lot of the tags have little poetic phrases that go with them, like, "a dollar in my pocket and a chip on my shoulder."
>>25233192
I was an assistant conductor at the time. It wasn't really brutal, though the weather was challenging. Ice everywhere. A crane car was sent out to lift the engine back onto the rails. What I usually did was cut the engine off the train, ride it around the rails, throw switches and couple up the engine, hang hoses etc on the other end.
>>25233356
why do you think they do it?
>>25233400
sounds like a cool job, how did you get it?
>>25233570
I knew someone who was a boss on the RR. Went from boring office job to trains. Quite different.
>>25233786
nice
>tfw only have contacts in industries I have no interest in getting into
>>25233570
These tags are a glimpse into a whole 'nother world that I cannot fathom. They're not stereotypical gangsta tags. They're artistic and have an indie look to them. My impression is that these are done by the kind of kids who live in small towns, who drop out of high school, and yet are smart and have good taste and cultural awareness because they are somehow plugged some mysterious underground scene that's still communicating through MySpace, or some scene website that people like us will never find out about. I can just picture these kids driving around listening to 2000's music and living in abandoned farmhouses.
>>25233908
sounds like a pretty cool life actually
how long does a tag on a car last before it's found and painted over?
>>25234084
Tank cars are scheduled for maintenance every ten years, hopper cars every twenty years. That's how often they come to us, but it's likely they get touch up paint more frequently. A car would become plastered in graffiti in ten years.
>>25234160
do you ever do any other types of car? like boxcars, intermodals, reefers, etc
>>25234664
I did a box car once, and I'm told there was an autorack in the shop at some point. Here's another trivial fact, hopper cars also come in two varieties. There's the normal kind, and then there's pressure differential cars that use pipes to blow and suck flour into and out of the car. We have to clean out the pipes. I've eaten some the flour before, though that's a very bad thing to do. The regular cars are emptied just by gravity through doors under the car. It's funny because the cars have "DO NOT HAMMER" in big letters, but the sides of the hoppers are covered in dents because the RR workers try to get every last morsel of grain out of the hoppers.
