It isn't actually christian either, Christianity just made it up because the pagans wouldn't stop celebrating their own holidays and they needed a substitute that's exactly the same. No one actually knows when Jesus was born, and some of the more conservative christians refuse to celebrate it altogether.

Christmas has become a mish-mash of all kinds of things, so it's really more of a legal construct than anything. We should almost change the name to Xmas (like in futurama) to sever the final link between it and any religious underpinnings.
