Nah. the 2d porn was really bad and the switch from that horrible plastic that turns yellow in a year to black powder-coated metal was one of the most important technological advances computing has ever seen.

no, fuck those stupid CRT monitors. Fucking pain in the ass. I have more nostalgia for when I was a really little kid and we had an Apple IIe. Jesus that thing was a noisy fuck.

Fuck me the HL1 mod community was amazing. S&I, the specialists, natural selection, earths special forces, etc, all the thousands of custom models for CS, admin mod, that TFC extension mod with special abilities, fuck I miss that shit. I wish I had taken modeling and skinning and animating more seriously when I was a kid so I could be developing games with all my old friends now.

this but for HL2. SMOD, Eternal Silence, Hidden: Source... Source is my favorite engine and I love using Hammer to make stuff. I hate coding in general so I could never make a full mod, but like architecture and have enough knowledge to prototype simple singleplayer stuff in Hammer alone.

Buuuuut I never really got into the mod/mappack scene when it was still fucking relevant, so now I have a bunch of skills with a dead engine no one wants to use and everyone constantly makes fun of despite powering some of the most popular (if not THE MOST popular) games on Steam today, and not just because it's made by the people who run Steam in the first place. :V

Bush Sr. was okay. Like him or not, he did his job.

Bush Jr was genuinely incompetent and did everything wrong. Nigga could barely even give a speech.

NSA spying predates obama but yeah in retrospect he was pretty shit and I take it back. but obama is actively shit, bush was just kinda there letting shit slip and in my book, that's worse

like, obama is evil and horrible, but bush is just straight up a dumbass who only got a job because his daddy ran shit years back
>>
32 years old, so I can clearly recall early 2000s.

>mobile phone calls were super expensive
>Internet was slow and unwieldy
>windows XP was an improvement on prior versions but still lacked many features we take for granted such as a functioning search for keyword phrases in directories
> browsing the Internet on a daily basis was considered nerdy
>the iPod was an extremely expensive accessory and most plebs like me relied on tapes
>CD burning was possible but CDs were markedly more expensive and access to CD burners was still limited
>Simpsons was still one of the funniest shows on television
>>
It's easy to get nostalgic, but the technology at the time was awful.

I didn't do much flying prior to 9/11 but I still recall early 2000s airport security being incredibly relaxed and easy compared to the shitshow we take for granted today.
>>
>>25181359
NSA spying expanded and developed under him, apparently with his approval. Things like the Utah Data Center were completely under his administration. Extending the DMCA, signing the NDAA, pulling out of the middle east at the worst time possible because "muh troops", etc.
Obama only seems smart because he reads off the teleprompters and only does interviews when he gets softballed (e.g. liberal late night talk shows)
Bush may have seemed stupid, but at the end of the day they were both awful and if either one wasn't president we'd probably be a lot better off.
>>
>I will never relive the early ps2 era
>I will never play wow for the first time again
>>
>>25180924

The 2000s were the most forgettable decade in the past 150 years, besides 9/11.

Most people lump today's decade in with it.

There is a strange lack of any good/memorable music from that period.

I'm 24 and remember the late 90s. Either your memory really sucks or mine is really good. 1999-2004 was the blandest most forgettable time in the past 30 years. The fashion wasn't even stimulating at the time. Imagine throwing a 00s party, what lame shot would even highlight it?

9/11 is all that came out of it. There was nothing cool about the 00s and no one is going to miss it 25 years from now.

That's more mid 00s but as a whole it was just baggy, generic, and barely distinguishable from the late 90s. The 70s-early 90s was waaaay more impressionable and distinctive. You're a moron who doesn't pay attention to detail.

There was a time when the web was still anyone's game to win, and sites and services came and went. I think the big players we have now are here to stay for the foreseeable future, and there's not going to be some search engine or social media shakeup that's going to sideline Google or Facebook.

Same thing happened with microcomputers. There was an all-out battle from the late 70s to the early 90s with everyone and their dog putting out their own systems, until the generic "PC" wiped out everyone else, aside from Apple.

I suppose it was from my perspective of having limited disposable income...
Looking back I guess phone calls weren't that expensive and the phones themselves weren't as expensive as mid-tier smart phones...
Really the issue was everything was limited and rationed out.
The idea of having every song ever recorded at your immediate disposal was a still Sci-Fi material.
Hope that makes sense: limited availability + limited money = perception of things being expensive.

Yeah, I'm 20 now. I miss playing flash games that people put effort into making like the newgrounds game 'The Ugly' and shit like that.
