Watamote was good in a lot of ways but I had to force myself to finish it only because I felt like they put a lot of work into the anime and I should give it a chance. And the ending was just ass. You gotta just fish around explore to find ones you like. Anime's I've liked, Serei tsukai no blade dance, akame ga kill was real good, gintamas a fun timewaster, hunter x hunter

Episode 7 and 18 (where the twist finally happens) - 23 are good. The music is fantastic. Mako x Ryuko is OTP. The secondary villain is incredibly hateable. The main villain has to commit rape to be half the threat. The final episode kinda sucks. The first two arcs of the show are pointless.
Beyond that, its a parody of shonen tropes and the magical girl genre. I din't know a good actual magical girl anime, but Madoka is a good deconstruction. One punch man is better at parodying shonen tropes.
Watamote is hard to watch but its the kind of humor thats really good at making you feel awkward through empathy. As far as I know death note is edgy and entry level so try other entry level shows like any popular shonen. As far as I know umaruu is a cute girl doing cute things so try the best version of that formula in yuru yuri.
Try the best harem anime of monster musume.
Try the monogatari series.
Try devil is a part timer.
Try chunibyou. Its like watamote but cuter.

hunter x hunter for its interesting characters and storytelling. Least cliche shonen type anime out there. Defies a lot of tropes and follows logic (up until the final arc. They bend the rules a bit to make it work.)
Welcome to the NHK if you want to be depressed and are interested in what NEET really means. The manga is quoted as being better by a lot of people because the anime removes bits and pieces of each character that are pretty critical in getting across how degenerate and shitty they really are.
Hellsing for grimdark vampire and his big tittied sidekick violently ripping apart everything in sight. Also nazis.
Berserk for the anime version of game of thrones that focuses on the themes of ambition and friendship as well as casuality ( cause and effect) which can be pretty interesting. Griffith will probably draw you in from the moment he appears. Manga continues the story if you don't want the anime and the movies are about a 6 hour condensed version of the series.
Oyasumi punpun(manga) if you don't feel life is worth living anymore.
Space brothers if you want to be inspired. Based off some kind of true story.
That's all I have to recommend right now. It'd help a lot more if I knew your tastes in media. Pic related is strongest disciple kenichi which is humor and seriousness and tits surrounding a boy who wants to learn martial arts and gets drawn into a world he never dreamed of. Some of the martial arts techniques depicted are real so it might be worth watching if you're into them at all.

Samurai Champloo. It's only one season long but has so many different stories in the episodes that it hits you in the feels from a variety of angles. The anachronistic humor is a good touch too.

From your description here, hxh is definitely up your alley for the manipulation and power part. The mind games are incredible to watch and the explanations are even more intense when they're warranted. Your favorite character will probably be kurapika.
The rest of that stuff gives me the idea that you're a thinker so mushishi, Lain as others have suggested and maybe some Kinos journey or "kino no tabi" if you're unable to find it in english. Lain and kino are under 10 episodes while mushishi spans 2 seasons of short episode long stories. Nice and comfy to watch an episode and think about it before bed.

Sounds like you want serious shit. Attack on Titan might work. Its basically the walking dead but anime form. I don't know super serious politics shows, i think log horizon might have had that but thats my least favorite anime. You'd have to stick around for a loooooong time in narutonor bleach to get anything like that cause anime doesn't tend to get as dense as western shows. You need japanes games like kingdom hearts and metal gear for density.
