I would say "by accepting them into ours" but that seems to cause additional problems for them around their own kind.
From my limited experience, it seems that African American people are vastly different from Africans who live in America and also different from people of Caribbean African descent.
The African American is more insular and less likely to compromise on their own ways or culture to accommodate others.
