This for me too. I want an AR, not because I'm under any illusions about actually using it as a weapon, but because it's fun to poke holes in paper or make a metal gong ring at 200 yards with one.
There's something very zen about shooting, especially when shooting at long range for groupings. I enjoy the focus and concentration involved, the rewarding feeling when you go get the target and see a good group, and the fact that it's one of those rare activities where you can forget your problems and just concentrate on the task at hand. It makes me understand a little why the Japanese put so much religious and philosophical emphasis on archery.
