I actually learned a good amount of "techniques" and what not, but it was something that I could have learned on my own through the loads of free content on the internet. It definitely did help to have some guy showing you video footage and explaining it to you in person though, much more concise than having to sort through alot of content online that may not be relevant to you at all.

I consumed alot of related content (video, text) on my own for about 2-3 months before I actually started going out and trying it, and to my surprise I did get some positive results. 3 out of the 5 first weeks I went clubbing I got a girl's number each night, danced a bit and pulled them outside the club for some sexy action. I thought it'd be an interesting opportunity to check out what was actually being taught at these events or products being marketed as "higher level", and since these guys don't come around to my city often, and I've always been interested in social interaction / nuances, thought it would be worth it just for the experience, regardless of the outcome.

I think this was how it was back in the day in the "oldschool" PUA culture. It was quite formulaic and routine oriented, and since then it's evolved into concepts and ideas and less "techniques" or "tricks". It became much more about "inner game", or your mindset.
Off the top of my head, some of the ideas that RSD teaches include things like : not being outcome oriented / which relates to not being in your head / which results in natural flow of conversation and allows for spontaneity / which can result in projection of high, fun energy / which demonstrates to others that you are already fulfilled and are not trying to "acquire" something from others like a sketchy schemer / bringing the party / being grounded in your own reality / emotional sensitivity and awareness, knowing when to push + pull / which relates to knowing how and when to create tension for a bit of a dynamic emotional roller coaster ride, which is taught as more of an overarching idea to keep in mind and be sensitive of rather than "ok you gotta neg her now, then next you gotta do +1 action of building trust and comfort" / learning to be adventurous and step outside of your comfort zone / coming from a mentality of abundance, realizing that not everyone will like you and being ok with it because you know that there are many others that will like you /
As well as a bunch of basic techniques like how to follow up questions, how to keep conversation going, some physical gimmicks you could throw in here and there, etc.
The ideas are all fairly good and make sense, but the problem arises when the learner lacks enough social intelligence to, again, take things with a grain of salt and apply appropriately when needed.

I think the way to go is to ACTUALLY do things in your life other than "pickup" that will build core confidence and a greater understanding of "you" and your ego, strive to excel in whatever you do, and add / subtract some of these ideas and skills where needed. The problem comes when guys think "OK SO I JUST NEED TO *DEMONSTRATE ABUNDANCE* RIGHT??? As if the idea in itself is a technique, when the right way to go about it is to, again, ACTUALLY BECOME A PERSON WHO IS A LIKEABLE, SOCIAL PERSON, WHO DOES GET POSITIVE REACTIONS FROM WOMEN, AND THEREFORE DEVELOPS A MENTALITY OF ABUNDANCE / NON NEEDINESS.
Again, the ideas are good, the culture as a whole I would say is ultimately unhealthy, and should be more of an afterthought to your main purpose in life and self actualizing. I'm sure the people who teach this stuff also realize this to a certain extent, but I don't blame them like alot of the "puahate" type guys do. It's all marketing, there is alot of money in this industry, and at times if they have to maybe operate on some un-truths and at times peddle stuff to guys who they know are completely helpless, then so be it. I think it's kind of like how a lawyer still has to do his job and try his best to make a case for the defendant when they know that he's guilty as fuck - type of deal.

It really depends on the situation, environment, and the type of girl you are dealing with. I've never had trouble starting conversations with strangers, PUA stuff has just helped me spice it up a bit and be a bit more dynamic and freely expressive instead of being just polite all the time. You will find that most (MOST) people are open to and almost want positive social interactions to happen to them, and you are able to get away with alot more silliness than you would think.
I think a big part of being able to "entertain" others is being comfortable with yourself, this way you're not in your head trying to think of what to say next. And people can definitely tell when something isn't adding up, when you're feeling stifled and awkward they will feel it to. So I guess the "solution" wouldn't be to "learn how to entertain a female" but to live your life and do your thing, learn new things and develop a sense of core confidence that allows you to let go and freely sustain conversation.

You also have to read body language and be able to pick up on subtle hints and indications of interest. Read a book on body language if you can't do this.

I went through some cringey phases where I was forcing myself to speak in a certain manner or say certain things because I thought "this action entertains the female organism i am engaging in verbal communication with" but it came off as tryhard and unnatural as fuck.
And yeah +1 on body language too. Power stances, posture, squaring up to the person and not being awkwardly adjacent to them, a fun book to read might be "What every BODY is saying" that I got through a bit but stopped because I've always been very sensitive of mine and other's body language.
