What does /r9k/ think of the early 2000s?
>>
>>25103817

The worst period I can remember. The worst movies, TV, music, fashion etc.
>>
>>25103817
I was about 5 years old so not much.
>>
>2015 is to 2000 as 2000 was to 1985

WHAT THE FUCK
>>
The 2000s didn't get bearable until about 2004

Just watched Men in Black II. It comfy and nostalgic as fuck. I guess its more 90s than 00s culturally though. I think the 00s was a shit decade, personally.

Absolutely this. You can could on one hand all the truly great shows from the early 00s. 10s have been a renaissance in comparison.
>>
>>25103817
The leap in technology between 1985 and 2000 was far greater than 2000 and 2015.

this hurts
>>25104016
this killed me
The fact that we haven't made any substantial technological progress is depressing
tfw we will probably be stuck with the same shit for 80+ years then when your right on the brink of dying OH 30 MORE YEARS AND HUMANITY WILL ADVANCE TO NEW HEIGHTS
>>

>>25104100

Are you both living in a fucking rock?

There has been a fuck load of changes since the 2000s

>HDTV/Smart Tvs with Internet connection
>Xbox Kinnect
>Almost all cars in 2015 have at least Internet connection, GPS, Pandora, Backview cameras and sensors etc. where in 2000, the only thing you would get was a shitty clock
>Social Media
>SMART PHONES WHICH ARE LITERALLY PCS, OMG CAN PLAY GTA SAN ANDREAS ANYWHERE I GO!!!!
>Online Multiplayer on consoles
>Chips on Debt/Credit cards to prevent fraud
>Phone watches
>VR gaming headsets
>Newer phones have better quality cameras
>YOUTUBE CAN STREAM 1080P AND 60 FPS
>>
>>25104310
>more screens
>more powerful
>more portable
>more pixels

That's literally it. You don't seem to realize that the home computer in the 80s and 90s and then the Internet itself was a huge revolution.
>>
>>25103817

I was actually born in 85, experienced the whole nu-metal pop-punk mallgoth at its prime.

It was great for me, but times are definitely better now.

>but muh social media and facebook

whoooooo gives a shit, let the normies stay on their containment websites, the internet has never been bigger and better.

My only real complaint is that pop culture lost all of its edge and any mainstream alternative scene.

Look at the acts of Wooodstock 94 and Woodstock 99.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9S-JVKw0mE

If there was a woodstock 2015 it would be Skrillex and Drake and Justin Bieber.

The 2ks were fucking pure cancer incarnate.

>rise of SJWs

>he doesn't into Moore's law

Computers in the 80s and the internet in the 90s were expensive, clunky, nearly useless novelties at first.

These days everyone and their mother is constantly plugged in into the high-speed internet, it absolutely revolutionzed the way we do everything from business to everyday communication and the way we make friends to the way we think.

Once you invent the wheel, you go from a horse chariot to a car. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.
>>
>>25104345
>25104345

And you don't seem to realize how little most people cared about computers or the internet until they could carry one in their pocket and post pictures of their meals on social media.

>2015 is to 2000 as 2000 was to 1985
I quite honestly cannot believe this
>>
>>25104470
>2Ks
>everyone buying cell phones

u wot m8

It wasn't until the very very very very last years of the 2Ks that cell phones took off, and even then it was still just a phone

Neither can I. It's also hard to believe 2008 is almost 8 years ago when it feels like it was only 2-3 years ago.
Everything from 2008 onwards has been a depressing blur.
>>
>>25104546
no just cared about those things, but really had a use for them. Back then, why send someone an e-mail that they can only check when they're at their jobs? Why not call them instead? These days you can send them an e-mail on their phone. Phones these days are like 5 different pieces of electronic equipment from the 90s that probably all added up to like 90 pounds.

>you literally hold up a palm-sized screen to a text or sign in any human language and it'll translate it before your eyes, something that not even 90s sci-fi dreamed of

>lol this technology sucks lol dial-up and dot matrix printers were way better
>>
>>25104952
>something that not even 90s sci-fi dreamed of
are you on drugs? most 80s/90s sci-fi thought we'd have robots and flying cars by now, language auto-translation is lame as shit
>>
Problem with todays technological advancment is that mind can be too easly distracted with abudance of materials.
Before while there was slower shittier internet, content was much more original and inovative, not just in IT sector but in movies cause you had to had brain power to make something and people were growing up in casual enviorment without too many distractions.
I remember I was even more creative when youtube, facebook and other shit didnt started, then basically every normie started using internet and pouring their shit .

Moore's Law is slowing down and will probably end within the next 10 years

>>
>>25104345
What's changed since the 1800s, then?
>newspapers still use ink and paper
>music still uses instruments
>we still speak english
So according to you and your faulty train of thought, fucking nothing has advanced in technology since the time when men still wore top hats and bicycles were a deathtrap.
>>
>>25105009
flying cars would be impractical on every possible level. Instead of having traffic on the ground you now have traffic in the air, when someone's car stalls or a couple of them crash into one another you end up with white-hot burning metal falling all over a schoolyard or something.

Most sci-fi was impractical, it was always just like "WHAT IF IT WAS A TYPEWRITER THAT ALSO HAS WHEELS?" but the useful things were blown right out of the water like Star Trek's tricorder, giant TV screens stuck in a living room or evil CEO's office that allowed people to see and talk to one another, etc.
