Trainspotting is alright, its cool and stylish but nothing tops Requiem for a dream, that is the realest movie about addiction out there and it attacks all kinds and forms of addiciton with different characters to show how diff people are affected....
at first each character seems like a independent scum bag but u then see how their vices play off and interact with each others showing a diff look at it .

It's a horror movie, it's meant to make addiction look awful and scare people away.
Addiction is awful. But in reality addiction is a LOT more like it's depicted in Trainspotting. That's why the movie has a huge following by drug users: it's a unbiased look at addiction/drug abuse. It shows the highs and the lows.
Begbie didn't do heroin though. He just hung out with the junkies for some reason.
