It's fancy academic speak for business oriented IT. I've been really enjoying it so far, especially since I suck pure ass at math so Comp. Sci. was out of the question. MIS also called CIS, IS, or IT depending on the school is a good broad field that helps you jump into a wide variety of tech related fields.
I plan on going to get my Masters in Cyber security, but since we're in Vegas, a lot of my friends get recruit gigs to work on, develop, and or manage Casino systems. Definitely one of the best paying majors.

Do you basically just do a lot of conceptual modelling, normalization, and coding? Yeah, you usually take classes for 1-2 programming languages, or however many you want, I'm doing PHP and CSS but beyond those specific classes, professors won't require you to have greater than a beginner level of knowledge in a specific language.
Most of my work is honestly done in office suites, servers, data management, databases, etc. A lot of work is done on group projects and coordinating with other people. I've floated by my first year pretty much solely off my background experience with computers.
Comp. Sci is much more programming intensive.

I'm a student in Leipzig, Germany, and I picked this University because it didn't have any uh.. conditions for studying CS (like having a certain high school GPA).
The teachers also make more of an effort to get their students through the classes, but in the more difficult classes (calculus) there's still a failure rate of close to 50% lol

My parents were always on my case to be on top of homework, so I always did that, didn't really start procrastinating majorly until senior year. Be grateful that Cornell and other institutions implemented this policy. There are more important things in creating the ideal college experience and thus the most successful student body aside from what you might consider the "best." With that logic, you could just have a class of perfect GPAs and test scores and a 80/20 (or something) male/female split - but ultimately, those aren't all conducive to creating a good community, and it certainly won't make students want to go to their school.

It's what's in the University's best interest. They're basically just businesses that offer education as their commodity, with the college experience as an added bonus. Because of that, they create an image of themselves that they market to prospective students - and honestly, if they always accepted the more academically qualified student over the more "diverse" option, they would probably not end up with the image that they want to create. Diversity is something people care about, it enhances the college experience, and most importantly, intelligence/test scores aren't good predictors of success. In order to foster a successful community and attract future students, they have to diversify their student body, even if it means sacrificing an overall higher test score average or even GPA.
here are colleges out there that look for the best and brightest students without those other "balancing" factors, but you didn't apply to those. You applied to Cornell. And that's not what they're looking for, and the experience you're describing is not what they offer. You should have applied somewhere else if quality education was all that mattered to you.

I didn't apply to Cornell. I don't respect the Ivy Leagues or any university that practices affirmative action really, meaning the vast majority of American universities. All trash. European universities like Oxford and Cambridge have much better admissions policies.

It's a very solid state school all around although it's fucking tremendous and kind of depersonalizing. I'm a STEM and lib arts double major and I can say I've had all around decent to good professors with some exceptions. Do get involved in extracurriculars or research or you will fade into the crowd. Luckily there's a lot of opportunities for that here
Also do your best to schedule classes on only one or two campuses because busing is hell
