I've had classes where the final was 100% of the grade.
One had a 30 question final. We had 24 hours, and could do any 24 questions. We could only work on the final in the exam room, but could leave and return at any time for that 24 hours.
6 questions were traps and would take multiple hours to complete. The rest were expected to take slightly under an hour.

This was pretty heavy math; Google was of little help. It was constructing proofs linking different conjectures. The problems built on each other as well, so you would have to use the answers from some of them to help you solve other problems.
The meta-problem was figuring out the order in which you needed to attack them .

In my European country you usually have one exam and one or a few assignments or projects.
In the assignments you can just pass or fail and to pass the course you have to pass both the exam and assignments and if you pass it's only the exam that decides which passing grade you get.

I'd actually be grateful if more weight was given to final exams rather than shitty mundane things like homeworks and tests. That way it'll just be like my old high school days when I just slacked off all day and only had to do well on the actual A Levels to get a good grade.

Most liberal arts classes (not STEM or economics) have most of their grades determined by projects and papers, lots of reading, maybe a discussion component
Otherwise most classes have homework count as 10-20% of the grade (in the form of ~weekly problem sets), maybe 2-3 midterms that count as 15-25% of your grade each, and a final that counts from 15-50%.
If your average dips below 2.0 (a C grade, which is usually near the bottom of a class) you get on probation; if you are unable to raise your average above 2.0 for a few semesters you are usually kicked out.
The main difference between our countries is that our universities range from extremely selective to basically open admission. So there is a large difference in difficulty of material between schools

If you're only here because of the name and don't actually enjoy doing nothing but study 60 hours a week and more, you're going to have a pretty miserable time up to the point where it might not even be worth it anymore.
Also, if you're not particularly inherently smart, your colleagues will literally wipe the floor with you. It's quite common here to feel that your neighbor completely obsoletes you in an intellectual sense, and that depresses a lot of people who used to be the superstar of their high school or whatever.

My Mechanics exam was 8 questions, and we could do any 6. The exam started at 5, and the professor strolled in around 5:30 and was like, "yeah, sorry about that. I'll be here all night. Take as much time as you need." All 8 questions were hard as fuck and some took multiple sheets of just trying out different methods to solve the problem. It was basically an exam measuring how little you were going to fail. I wasn't even a Physics major.
Honestly, that's my favorite kind of exam. Anyone who likes easy exams is wasting their time and money. Seriously, I knew people who got jobs around universities, bought housing, and lived around and still got to party all the time. Actually that sounds pretty fucking fantastic, but I can't seem to find any colleges like that in my state. I'm a sophomore college student in STEM. I am researching art schools, but I've only found one that hasn't asked for a portfolio and another that offers Fine Arts but it's an AS and I want to enter for a BFA.
So basically I'm going to transfer, although I'd prefer to leave all of the STEM behind. I don't think I've seen any "major universities" since I'm looking strictly at ones in my city, and the most major school in NYC is Julliard I think, but that's performing arts.
I mean when you're looking at careers to pursue nobody actually tells you here are all these top arts, design or creative schools you could go to, so I can't name any top art schools, just going on whatever has the highest acceptance rate and lowest tuition.
It's fucking difficult making the transition from pure STEM to art. Where do you even start with this shit.

If A is 100% true on first glance it is false, choose B and C.
If A and C are true but there is no option for A and C together, whatever correlates with B is the answer.
