Being that your doing engineering i'd think you would do stuff like CADs and mathematical models/whatever which need relatively more processing power, a laptop with low-mid range graphics card, i5 or AMD equivalent processor with as much storage as your preferences and budget needs, i think 8gb, maybe 16 of RAM would likely suit you.
