Here is my contribution, a lesser known painting by Ivan Aivazovsky, known for his ingenious way of depicting oceanic bodies.

It's still art. The story is quite sad if you can relate to it which I can.

I have an appreciation for all sorts of artistic styles, both brush and pencil.
There is a certain calming, mellow tone to the landscape, while at the same time it hints towards something within, more exciting than what is on the surface.

Here's a comic that I heavily relate to, which contains art, but I still would never post it in an art thread except to make a point like I'm doing right now. The artistic merit of comic books, manga and anime cannot be compared to traditional oil painting, sculptures and the like. It's almost insulting to classic artists to place their work beside something that is so much more rudimentary. Sure, it may still provoke emotion and elicit a response from the viewer, but the technical skill involved does not compare, and it makes you look foolish to insinuate that it does.

This house belonged to a writer and a painter I believe.
I like it when colors don't make sense it shows how much of an abstraction the entire world we see is.
I think backstories are unimportant to paintings. The piece has to tell a story on its own, not have a separate reason as to why it's important.
