I don't understand. I hated retail with all my heart. Just going into work was a battle of my willpower to not stay on the interstate and drive to Canada to start a new life. Retail is honestly the worst, most depressing, most frustrating, most soul-sucking work available to human beings. And I wasn't even there for a full year.

it's not so bad, depends on your situation.
I work in retail and earn about 1000 a month. I have a cheap living situation, the total cost of my bills is only 300, leaving me with 700 each month. I put away 100 (sometimes more) and then have 600 to spend across 4 weeks on whatever I want.
I work only half days (6 hour shifts) 5 times a week and enjoy luxuries that none of my career friends can afford. I drive a nice car, have nice clothes and eat out all the time.
Depends entirely on your situation, why should I work hard to get a stressful job when I can enjoy lots of free time and have an easy as fuck job where I just mess around all day? I'm perfectly content

OP when I was in college I briefly worked for the campus bookstore. For most people a shitty job at the shitty campus bookstore was a bump on the road this was their lives.
There were two women one who controlled books, and another who controlled buying every other item in the store. They were in their late 40s but acted 10.
There was some guy who worked upstairs who I think was mute, he would randomly move from computer to computer and randomly type crap, no he was NOT IT so he wasn't fixing them. No earthly idea what he was doing.
The best was this fat retarded looking guy who was a literal mouth breather. He was like 22 but looked 40 he was so fat and ugly. Wore Bill O'Reilly shirts fucking idiot. He would constantly pick fights with me about computers. He pronounced Nvidia(its IN-Vid-e-uh) as "Nuh-Vid-e-uh". I told him to fucking google a video of someone saying it. Dude had the fattest ugliest wife I have ever seen. He constantly told these ridiculous stories about these amazing jobs he was going to get.
I found out from other workers he tried college 3 times but was so dumb he failed like every class he ever took.
