It's not the same thing at all, magic is magic, it requires a decent amount of money to get into, you would have a point if you said the difference is between players across all card games, but in MTG the competitive portion is extremely small compared to the whole player base and still there are some female at tournaments, I don't have statics on that as I don't think wizards published or did a research for them (talking about tournament only), but the research they did does indeed point out that the market research shows the gender breakdown of male to female is 62% to 38%.
