Not exactly forever back, for me it's only 4 generations, and they all married Irish on my dad's side as well, so it's pretty hard to just ignore that fact. I have an extremely Irish facial structure and an Irish last name so you can't expect people like me to ignore that.

actually, use of the Irish language is increasing in some areas while declining in others. Rural areas show a decline whereas urban areas show an increase. Also, Northern Ireland has a far greater number of fluent Gaelic speakers (roughly ten times more) than the Republic, a fact I find somewhat ironic.
I appreciate efforts made in places like Ireland and France to preserve Celtic languages and promote their use. In my hometown in Canada, there was a strong movement to preserve the local Native language. I view such efforts as admirable despite the fact that languages naturally do die out or mutate drastically due to factors such as cultural assimilation and such
