I spent some time in England OP (and no I don't mean a two week vacation with my family when I was 10). Go far enough anywhere north/west/south of London and the traditional English spirit and way of life lives on. Midlands can be top tier comfy if you can understand/tolerate their accents.

Aye. Everytime I went to London I thought seeing a different landmark would make me appreciate as the birthplace of anglo-saxon civilization.
