MMO genre is dead as of now.

PvP server is the same as it ever was. PvE server is better imo, so long as you don't mind the fact that it's PvE. Community is better and pop is less obnoxious.

nostalrius is great. very little bugs and a very active community. it even has gold sellers spamming trade chat because the servers have a high enough population for it to be profitable to sell gold on. and barrens chat is packed. it's the true vanilla experience.

I didn't hear anyone talking about it, at least on 4chan. I was there when they launched, and stayed for a month or so, but I just couldn't stand PvP servers, so I quit. I thought PvE servers were never on their agenda, since a big part of the population that likes classic WoW seemed to like it because of PvP servers

ok so here's the deal then: the pve server has about 1/5 - 1/3 of the population the pvp server has. and they allow you to transfer over a character irreveribly from the pvp server to the pve server (i think).
it's got a much smaller and fresher economy and much less competition for mobs and resources compared to the pvp server. you may or may not like that.

In what sense do you mean train ride? Is the grind long? Yes. But the rewards are worth it. You can master every class/job on one character so you don't have to make 5 different characters. However, the storyline is mandatory, some people dislike this, and if you do, don't play the game. A big part of the immersion and community is knowing exactly what's going on in Eorzea. Emotional train ride? I will tell you that once you reach Heavensward content the story gets exponentially BETTER. It's very well made.

The difficulty of having a good team and learning how to beat the raids, trials, and HM dungeons will keep you very busy. Itemization is very diverse, so many items to get, so many stats to customize. All in all very fun.
I have played other MMOs even Guild Wars, Tera, Atlantica, Perfect World, WoW, etc this is very much one of the best you can get.

Most private servers are hosted in europe where it's really difficult for blizzard to shut them down as they aren't subject to US copyright law. Nost is no excaption, the only time I've ever heard of a private server being shut down by blizzard was the rebirth, and that was only because they hosted it in the US.

It fucking sucks. The questing is like cataclysm wow, the classes are pretty shittily designed, the skillshot system means basically nothing, the whole corny sci fi theme gets boring extremely fast and the art style is more cartoony shit. Half the fucking population plays furry midgets.
The only places where it's okay are PVP, player housing, andas a waifu creator.
Maplestory's new server is surprisingly fun.
