Live in New York so I guess it figures, but I've lived in a lot of places. Mostly large cities, so I tend to speak normally, and with out any quirky funny (see: inane) words for things and for that I'm very grateful.

Like pop, who the fuck says this, I can see maybe soda pop but pop just sounds dumb. I caught myself saying it after living in a suburb near Chicago for a few months and every time I did I would take a 5 out of my pocket and tear it up, probably took a hundred dollars to set me straight but it was well worth it

There are more deer and elk here than moose, especially young deer.

There are (almost) no native ruminants in the badlands; it's a moderate desert composed of mesas, some green.

Nunavut is fairly far and distinct, and poutine is an American thing. What's popular here is beef, venison, or elk in a spice based off of a pickling rub for a deli meat. Served kind of like a steak sandwich with a grilled baguette with garlic butter. Pretty much everyone has had it and has liked it whereas poutine is only popular with youths..

Apparently I have a Phoenix dialect, but grew up in Idaho/Washington boarder area (spokane/coeur d' alene) area. I live in Ohio now, that probably fucked with my dialect a little bit.

I say soda pop, not pop, and or soda.

I say "jockey box" when referring to the glove compartment.

I say "Movie house" when referring to the theater or cinemas.

Where I grew up, the dialects are old. We have ancient word for things.

My sister moved from where we live in Ohio to Hawaii, and everyone made fun of her for the way she said shit like "pants" and "ranch" (I guess we say something more like "payants" and "rayanch"), so now she does this god awful British thing she thinks is fooling everyone where she says "ponts" and "ronch", even though she's been back in Ohio for like, five years, and if you address it she throws a fucking hissy fit.

I have no idea where "Geordie" is but I'm assuming you are the distant descendant of a Danish rape baby in the Danelaw from ca. 1000 AD. Is this correct and if so how the actual fuck did the accent survive so long

Actually the Danelaw didn't really get much of a foothold north of the river tees, so the Geordie accent is closer to how the Anglo-Saxons would have spoke than the vikings (who would have sounded more like Yorkshire or East Anglia)

We still have Norwegian loanwords like hjem for home and bairn for child (even though its barna or something in norwegian)

>>

I can't understand those people at all. A lot of them moved to my part of the country when our economy was good and theirs was shit (currently they are just both shit). They are about equally incomprehensible to me. They're also located so far away that despite being in the same country it's like going from the UK to Spain or something.

Listening to Newfoundlanders speak is like listening to Scots for me. Genuinely can't understand a fucking word they say. They're nice people though, almost all extremely polite, even the poorest of manual laborers.
