>mfw there are adults on this very board who, without a religious prohibition, refuse to drink alcohol
You people realise your social lives would be a million times better and richer if you did, right? No, having a drink or two isn't gonna turn you into a raging alcoholic, no you won't end up lying homeless in the gutter. But I guarantee you that every time you tell people that you don't drink, their esteem of you drops at least just a tiny bit, and you seem more like a child and less like an adult in their eyes.
What's the big deal? That it tastes bad? Well, it's an acquired taste. And you'll never acquire it if you keep drinking fucking Mountain Dew instead of trying to expand your palate which, it seems, hasn't been expanded since you were eight years old.
Nobody's saying that you should ever get wasted, nobody's saying you should even drink much at all. But not being able to have a drink or two in the presence of some friends says a lot about your maturity level, whether you believe it or not.

>inb4 "my friends don't care if I drink"
Yeah, and those are the only people you'll ever interact with, right? LOL
>>
>>24913117
Don't have any friends

But I don't want to. What's your deal?

Nobody cares in real life, you moronic roastie alcoholic slut. Get out.

My friends are mostly Christian, including a lot of conservatives, and a lot of them don't drink either. If you're crowd is sluts, then you'll get a lot of "oh em gee he won't drink."

I partially agree OP but posting this on r9k is a "here is your reply" situation

I'd rather prosper as an eternal wizard, and not give myself a lifespan as one you filthy failed apprentice scum.

I wouldn't ever, ever admit this to anyone in real life, but when someone tells me they don't drink, they slip in my estimation.

Why don't you?

>alcoholic in "recovery"
>yeah we know that's a lie, you untrustworthy bastard

>parents were alcoholics and I'm scared
>don't be such a fatalistic asshole

>don't like the taste
>you don't look twelve

>too expensive
>cheap fucking loser, get a job

...and so forth. Not drinking is like not driving, not knowing the president's name or not being able to watch a black-and-white movie. What the fuck is wrong with you, manchild?

I just don't see the point in drinking. what does it accomplish?

My friend is a neet obese manchild autist sperglord that comes from like 6 generations of alcoholics, including literally all his siblings and uncles. I would like it if he drank, just so he would take some risk, but I can respect his motivations.

>>
>>24913117
Kek. I love making normies butt blasted by refusing to drink and partake in their other degenerate habits.
>>
>>24913292
Well, first off, believe it or not, it does taste good. That's one of the appeals. But, again, it is an acquired taste. That means it takes some effort to appreciate, but it's worth it.
The other thing is, and once again this may be hard to believe, people in general are bad at socialising. Not in the same way that robots specifically are, but still pretty bad. A drink or two can help you socialise with people more easily and comfortably. And it DEFINITELY makes socialising with people you'd usually be less comfortable with much easier. Why do you think pretty much every social gathering features alcohol? For that very reason.

>>24913293
I'm sure you couldn't convince him of this, but genetics only goes so far. You have to have the right environment to turn you into an alcoholic. He's not gonna end up with the shakes just because he had a beer once.

>>24913272
>I wouldn't ever, ever admit this to anyone in real life, but when someone tells me they don't drink, they slip in my estimation.
I guarantee you that, like, 95% of the people around you share this sentiment.
>>

>>
>>24913431

see >>24913420 for an accurate appraisal of your mental state.

Sorry, but the reality is most people don't care whether you drink or not. You just have anxiety and other mental illnesses that make you obsess over other people's habits. No wonder you're addicted to alcohol.
>>
>>24913431
>I guarantee you that, like, 95% of the people around you share this sentiment.
but why? why can't you just accept that I choose to live my life in a certain way, while you choose a different way? why do normalfags have such a hivemind?
>>
>>24913310
I'm not going to bother explaining basic biology but drugs don't actually work for everyone. Some people really can quit anytime they want to, we just don't discuss themy because they aren't the problem, addicts are. Ever had soybean juice? Imagine if drinking that nasty shit was a social expectation and faggots like you insisted that "everyone likes it" when science itself refutes it hard. Imagine if there were times it was expected you drink soy bean juice to be polite. Imagine if people didn't trust you because you refused to drink that shit.

That's alcohol. It's fucking disgusting and I literally have to force myself to drink it.

Because you do not have this you are, objectively speaking, genetically inferior.
>>
>>24913468

Don't buy into his bs. Nobody cared that I didn't drink in college except bar sluts and chads. Plenty of the people were even embarrassed that they did.
>>
>>24913394
He literally plays MMOs all day (and now fallout) and is afraid of ever living. If he realized he wouldn't lose everything he had (...good boy points I guess) from taking any risk he could start being a person (he's 30, has a $0 cost Master's in AI, minor comp sci). I wasn't being a dank memer by saying he's an autist sperglord.
>>
>>24913117
>I-I don't have a problem, you do!

OP if you aren't an alcoholic why are you desperately trying to justify it to people who's main criticism is that they don't have "real" problems. Sounds like projecting.

Besides, scientifically speaking some people just can't into alcohol. Do edgy cutfags talk shit to you for not cutting yourself?
>>
He sounds like he actually might be an autists sperglord. Get off his back, he's doing what he wants to do.

He's 30, his ship has sailed. Stop trying to fucking change its course.

Look, obviously, the reality is different for someone who's medically advised against drinking alcohol. There are going to be exceptions to every rule.
I guess part of what it comes down to is that there are adults out there who can't even bring themselves to acquire a taste that everyone else was able to acquire years before.
Sushi's an acquired taste too. So are pretty much all bitter things, many cheeses, many vegetables, and so on.
The other thing it comes down to is that so many people on /r9k/ complain that they can't enjoy parties and stuff, but then, in the same breath, say they don't drink. The one goes hand-in-hand with the other.

Once again, nobody's saying get wasted. In fact, never get wasted. But two drinks isn't gonna do that unless you have, like, no liver.

again, so what? sounds like you don't actually enjoy drinking yourself, but you're too socially conditioned to speak your mind
>>
>>24913117

If alcohol is so great then why do 99% of poor scum and homeless people drink (and smoke too)?

checkmate
>>
>>24913810

This tendency to fear the worst outcome (like "homeless and starving") is known as anxiety. It often leads people like you to drink alcohol (be an alcoholic).
>>
>>24913741
if you need to drink to enjoy a party, then maybe you shouldn't be there in the first place
>>
I used to really enjoy it, but now I'm on medication that interacts with alcohol and I just get too nervous when I drink. The last them I drank I took one tequila shot and I felt too anxious to drink any more.
>>
Dad is an alcoholic, druggie, he has an addictive personality
I have an addictive personality
I eat raw sugar, raw spaghetti noodles, drink 2 liters of coke a day, chug salt
All because these things were at one point a cheap "what the hell I should try it" things that forcibly made themselves habits

Not going to smoke, drink, or do any kind of drugs besides maybe DMT once or twice in my lifetime.
Fuck off, I know myself and no occasion is worth my future going down the drain.

I'm on an MAOI. I stopped drinking wine, but didn't know brandy is made from distilled wine.

I turn into a rageaholic when I drink brandy. It feels fucking great, acting on anger, but you don't want to do that shit to the only people who care for you lol.
>>
>>24913892
What about workplace parties? Or department/faculty parties at school? A wedding where you don't know very many people? The list goes on.
Those parties can often involve interacting with lots of people you wouldn't feel 100% comfortable interacting with in that setting.
Not all parties are teenage houseparties, dude.
