I'd actually proffer that assuming I wouldn't have to learn sign language for her sake. Writing takes a lot longer than to just say words with your mouth, so each conversation would last longer before dying. Also, silences would be a lot more bearable knowing she wouldn't experience them quite the same way normal people would.
