I can't see why people would pick a tattoo based on anything but pure aesthetics. If you're putting permanent art on your skin, it should be the best goddamn art you can come up with, something that will stay beautiful no matter how you feel about the subject matter, and that won't necessarily be something meaningful.
The idea of 'meaningful' tattoos is tired and illogical, people are flaky and lose interest in things over time. Something that seems important to you won't necessarily stay that way, hence all the idiots with tattoos of bands and ex girlfriends etc. If something's really that important, you won't need a tattoo on you to remind you of it.

So to answer your question OP, women tend to CONFORM to a group as opposed to coming up her own thoughts, style, tastes, etc. Stupidity is usually taking the easier way out and trying to play it off as the opposite. That's what they're doing the easier, simple minded quick thing -- copy someone else and trying to play it off that she's unique and special at the same time. Humans copy off each other by default, it's how you learn growing up. The monkey sees another monkey getting something and so it does what the other monkey does, hoping to get the same thing.
