Residents of these states, is life as depressing as one might imagine? Have you ever seen the ocean?
>>
>>24888458
Wisconsin resident here.

>is life as depressing as one might imagine?
I guess so.

>Have you ever seen the ocean?
No.
>>
>>24888458
Detroit here. Life is grand. And I see the ocean 2x every year when my wife and I go to Puerto Rico.
>>
Iowafag here

yes and yes

kill me pls
>>
MN here. The small towns are like any other small town. The big cities are like other big cities. Why do coastal residents assume they're something special?
>>
Grand Rapids MIfag here,

It's not that bad having 4 seasons is nice and my city is on the up
>>
Southern Illinois here,

I'm mostly just depressed from the state of the world and other people, it's fine here. Really pretty forests and cliffs and stuff like that. I'm comfortable with the mildly racist atmosphere and my dumb little office job here.

I've been to the Pacific ocean in Oregon when I was really young, visiting family there.

I saw the Atlantic for the first time while in Florida this spring.
>>
Omahafag here

Omaha is actually a pretty alright city. Just avoid northeast O and you'll be all good. I've never seen an ocean by the way.
>>
Minnefag here. Nope. Twin cities are pretty big. Plus I've been around the US many times. So yes, I've seen many Oceans.
>>
>>24888458
I grew up in Brooklyn, Live in Chicago now. There really isnt a difference between a coastal city and a midwest city. The small towns and suburbs around here do have a more artificial vibe, though.
>>
Kansas faggel here. Nah life is fucking great. I guess if you were poor it might suck. Hell yes been to both and the gulf. Prefer the mountains though. Been to both both ranges and mt hood
>>
Nebraskan.

I bet you $20 I've travled to more places then your neet ass has ever hoped. Downtown Omaha, Benson, and O Street in Lincoln are the shit and are just as good as New Faggots downtown life. Its fun and modern down here.
>>
>>24888458
saint louis

but i've lived in virginia (virginia beach), new york (the city), and a little in florida.

it's really no different unless you REALLY like the beach
>>
>>24888458
I'm from upstate NY and its a Midwest clone

Can I comment?
>>
>>24888458
i grew up in the chicago area. i was pretty depressed there, especially in the winter. i didn't see the ocean for the first time until after i moved from the midwest. however after having lived in several different places now, i know that i am depressed anywhere. the only thing that really helps regards to location is how much sun i get in the winter.
>>
>>24888458
Minnesotan here. Yes. It sucks being frozen half the year, and there's never anything to do outside especially without friends. No I haven't seen the ocean but of course I've seen the Great Lakes which are the next best thing.
>>
>>24889170
Those are all places in buttfuck, Nebraska. Doesn't count as traveling. Faggel.
>>
I grew up outside of Chicago. I don't think life was depressing. My family has always traveled often, so I saw the ocean quite a bit.
>>
>>24889415
Where at?
I lived in Utica for a long time
>>
>>24888458
I live in North Dakota.

>life as depressing as one might imagine
Nope, I have a wife who loves me. I like to hunt and fish as does she, we also like to use atvs in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter, more outdoors stuff so here is fine.

>Have you ever seen the ocean?
Yes I have, both Pacific and Atlantic. The only states I have not been to are Hawaii, Louisiana, Alabama, Vermont, New Hampshire, Florida, and Rhode Island.
Also been to Canada of course, Ireland, Germany, and Norway.

Minnesota is nice.

I work at a fortune 500 company, there is plenty of outdoor activities, and the culture is nice.

In the summer biking is a big activity. I like going on trips around the lakes in Minneapolis. Its awesome.
>>
I live in Ohio, you don't want to be here. Niggers, corn, and rednecks.

I have never seen the ocean.
>>
>>24888458
Ohioan here. I've seen he ocean several time, have family down in Florida. Also, it's not particularly depressing. Most of my neighbors are either Nepalese immigrants doing Buddhist stuff all day or rednecks that won't bother you as long as you don't touch their weed/meth. Also it rains all the damn time. So, pretty comfy state actually. Way better than S. Carolina. I lived there a little while too, and it was unbearable.

This is what people don't realize. They hear about the state is so fun, so much to do, so much culture, from the people that have only ever lived in the cities. Everywhere else is the exact opposite. So unless you want to spend your time in a overcrowded area with somalians and ghetto niggers and high crime then it's not worth it.
>>
>>24889580
Minnesota has the worst heritage fags in the US.

No way dude life is awesome here. Everything you could ever want and none of the faggot pretension that you are afflicted with. Notice how were all too busy enjoying life while you sit here trying to feel better about yourself because of where you live? I've been to the coasts and lived abroad for a while, Midwest is where it's at. Better stop ranting about how much I love it before niggers like you move here to ruin it.
>>
Any college town has a better nightlife than the central coast CA. Its old people, beaners and in the summer tourists. Can get on the train and go a few hours either way to deal with more fucks in the city and pay inflated prices for everything. Need to get back to the plains
>>
Ohio gets a bad rap, the thing I probably hate most about it is the worst sports teams imaginable. Cedar Point is cool and weed possession is pretty much a traffic ticket. Sure not a top-tier state but not shit-tier either imho

I mean if you think about it, the Great Lakes are basically inland seas, and they are ultimately connected to the ocean via the St. Lawrence river.

This is also true, my moms side of the family lives in Minnesota and they are turbo Norwegian heritage fags. It kind of rubbed off on me too though.

Minnesota is amazing in the summer. Makes up for the typically brutal winters. This year it's been pretty mild so far though.

I'm depressed, idk if it's the state or if it's just me. The winter certainly doesn't help, except for when I go skiing, which hasn't been a thing for the past few years.

Yes I've seen both the Atlantic and the Pacific.

I live in a small middle of michigan town of like 1500 people. i have never once in my years of internet ever met someone from my area on here. only michiganfags are from detroit that ive met.

Detroit isnt even michigan.

But yes to answer your question its fucking depressining to live in the rural midwest.
>everyone on foodstamps

there is fucking nothing for me here, its like being stuck in purgatory i want out but this place is a tar pit of poverty. you never leave

Indiana resident here, I've lived here all my life.

It's not so bad, things are really cheap here compared to the rest of the country. I can buy a cheapo 2 story house for $120k. Everyone is fat so I'd imagine it's not too hard getting a gf if you wanted one (although she'll probably be fat unless you're Chad).

The downsides are bipolar weather, crime, nothing to do, and never seeing the ocean. I'm 24 years old and I've only seen the ocean out an airplane window. The great lakes are nice though.
>>
>>24891072
Minnesota is worse.

Took me over two hours to get through the twin cities on my way to my cab on Shell Lake last winter. This was at 2pm in the afternoon on a thursday. A little bit of snow and your state cant drive for shit in the cities, two hours to traverse the 694, after that though the interstate was fine.

I'm a Missourifag from Kansas City. Only thing going for us is that our sports are pretty good, won world series, good chance we could make playoffs in football in a couple years, and soccer center of America. That's it though. Literally half the state went to a parade celebrating the win.

But god forbid the Dakotas. Hardly memorable. Same with Minnesota. Those states are flat and empty with a city here and there. Missouri is all sorts of comfy, least everywhere along the interstates.

Recently left nebraska, was there for school.

Nebraskans don't leave nebraska. Some of them escape for a short while. Possibly even several years. But slowly, inexorably, the chains of the heart drag them back. They're born in nebraska, they grow up in nebraska, they live in nebraska, they start a family in nebraska, until eventually they die in nebraska. It's the circle of life (for nebraska).

I can agree with this. I catch myself doing it.

I can't seem to maintain friendships or any normal shit. So instead I just tell a random stranger about whatever bullshit happened in my life on a given day. I don't give a fuck if they think I'm weird or crazy. I'll never see them again.

I lose my shit when I think of trying to communicate with someone I "know" about anything important. I just can't do it.

And it's always hilarious when someone pulls it on you. You just walk away thinking, 'wow, what the fuck just happened?' Interacting with fellow Ohio crazies makes my day. They are usually high or on drugs, because it's awful here. This winter has been unusually kind. Every other year I can remember has been fucking brutal. I think it tends to inspire some sort of awful camaraderie, "We're in hell, but we're in it together."

>have you ever seen the ocean?

Yes.

But, are you aware how big the Great Lakes are? You certainly can't see across any of them, they have significant effects on the weather, and they even have small waves hit the shore. It's called the "Third Coast" for a reason.

I will agree with you, states like ND, SD, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa are pretty shitty unless you live in some metropolitan area or by a national park, and even then, it doesn't really compare. But all of the rest have excellent geography for recreation, or are at least close to a massive metropolitan area. Not some rinky dink slightly large city, but a city with at least 500,000 people. Minneapolis, Chicago, Columbus, Detroit (le detroit is bad meme) come to mind.

I personally live in Milwaukee less than a mile from Lake Michigan. While the suburbs of the city are boring, as like literally any city ever on the planet, I live pretty close to downtown and there are quite a few restaurants to eat at, a few shows to go to, sports venues, parks, stuff to do etc. There's some money invested into the area and while it's nothing even remotely close like New York or even Chicago, it can be fun. People actually want to live here, especially in the past 5 years, several 20 story buildings have gone up, with our tallest at 600 feet and a rumored new tower at 800 feet which would be 56th tallest in the US.

Never seen the ocean. Life is pretty bleak but it's not because I live here, it's actually a really nice town. People joke, but the people here actually are generally kind. We don't lock our windows/doors/cars, even when we turn them on in the morning to warm up. Just leave the keys in the ignition running with the doors unlocked, never worry about it.

Grand Rapids is shit, no idea why people praise it. We're lucky if any good bands come through town and even luckier if the small bands stop by the pyramid scheme or the intersection... Art prize is the most hilariously half assed thing ever. GRCC is pretty legit for a CC though, I'll give it that.

Grand Rapids is the epitome of cities that are built to make you think there are things to do when really there isn't anything to do.

MN here. I've seen both East and West coast. well to do family means that I've had nice opportunities to travel.

Having seen the alternatives, I like the northern US. I like where I am, though I can definitely see it being offputing to people more accustomed to the hustle in more densely populated cities. I went to New York this year and it was exhausting for me. Plus, Midwest has great been and MN now has distilleries showing up.
