As someone who's been here for forever and an eternity, I can say that it has more to do with the fact people used to respect each other on 4chan. We all got here in the early days because we spent all our time on the internet. You didn't have to worry about people being just normal people who happened upon 4chan and used it because it's famous or they are edgy.

Recently moderation has gotten out of control, with every non-PC comment getting deleted. And the current 4chan hasnt been this politically charged since 2007 when chanology was happening. You cant deny the website has a lot more normies now than ever before. It's sickening watching /v/ defend censorship of games to protect feelings, a far cry from when 4chan users used to raid habbo hotel with racist comments and swastigets.
I know calling out "newfags" is nothing new. Newfags have been coming in for almost a decade now, but rather than integrate with 4chan board culture like they ised to, they're demanding 4chan change so they can feel welcome. It's really changed the userbase for the worse.
I left other websites to get away from these pro-censorship, facebooking, selfie-taking, football-watching, gawker-reading, lowest common denominator faggots, and now they run the place.

Normally I'm skeptical of anything that talks about the good old days but it's definitely true. I used to post more back in the day, and would put tremendous effort into my content. I always got amazing feedback which is why I kept it up.

I think (at least in some political discussions) its mostly been about the reactionary hostility to the new left. Basically if you say anything left of Mussolini you're accused of being a (1) woman, (2) blue pilled kek (3) or an SJW. It puts a stopper in any conversation. It's usually not met with criticism ("You realise SJWs wouldn't identify as "liberal", right?") but with "Go back to /pol/".
People are angry and closed minded now. They didn't seem that way before. They also seemed a lot nicer and willing to talk.

I used to post occasionally about my feels, my kids, etc. I used to talk on /co/ especially about what it was like being a nerd pre-internet. I rambled a bit, but most people found it interesting how "geek culture" worked when you sort of HAD to go to the comic shop just to find anyone who heard of half the stuff you liked.
I USED to get a lot of inquiries, friendly discussion, and even some people asking for advice. Now (for reasons I'm not going to get into because it will derail) whenever I mention ANY of the stuff about my personal life (no matter HOW RELEVANT IT IS) I get accused of a thousand maymay insults.
