I don't see why so many hausse this series to kingdom come, I thought it was mediocre at best, artwork isn't very special and it lacks detailing here and there, most of the emotions are ridiculous even by anime standards, don't get me wrong I have no problems with regular ridiculous emotions and reactions in anime when they're made with a "wink", but with EVA the intention isn't such so it becomes a farce instead, I don't think I need to say anything about the character Shinji, also it uses the classic grip of withholding information to give the story depth which is fine to do and can really make a story interesting but they're relying on it far too much in NGE.
This was among the first anime I saw, and now some 500 shows later it's still in my top10 worst garbage I've seen. Watching the tards on /a/ praise it and discuss it at length over and over again both confuses and annoys me.

my favorite scene in neon genesis evangelion is when shinji masturbates over asuka as she lays comatose on a hospital bed. hideaki uses shinji as the representation of the youth in japan to show that they are too detached from the world to go out and get a real woman. the cum on shinjis hand represents the loss of life, and the steep population decline that has been a rampant problem in japan for a very long time now. hideaki's use of symbolism throughout neon genesis evangelion is the reason it is such a great show and will be an all-time favorite of mine for the foreseeable future.

Hmmm... I never thought about that scene in that way before. It's interesting how there's a similar shot where his hand is full of blood, and the shot when he holds the cross necklace Misato gives him is similar as well. Eva is all about its sex and death.
I've pulled a sleepy Asuka, and it does feel fucked up, as Shinji puts it. It captures the pathetic feeling of masturbating next to a sleeping girl quite well.
