When he was 23 he was working as an electrical engineer on the North Sea oil rigs earning 1000+ quid a week in the 90s. He was driving around in a brand new BMW and had the deposit down on a nice 3 bedroom house for me and my mum.

Yea. What is even weirder is having a double generation gap between me and my parents. They're so old and from rural Ireland they literally don't understand the modern world at all and it took me awhile to figure out the way they operate and view the world isn't exactly normal.
When I was younger they would give me lectures about what to do if strange men came up to me offering me 'wacky backy'.
