He's kind of right though, you need to make that body to body connection if you're going to be living so closely with someone. A large part of it is that feeling of being one entity together, so you can wrap your mind around a stranger, another person being your partner. The difference is as the romance aspect of it decreases over time, do you treat it as just a requirement of the relationship to feel good, or as a bonding experience.
Note, this really only applies if you actually care about someone. Short flings, casual sex and fwb situations don't follow the same rules.
