not OP, but as someone who's going into my sixth year of alcoholism, the only way you can stabe off a hangover is by acting responsibly while you are destroying yourself with alcohol. Frequently drink water, enough to help counteract the alcohol stripping your stomach lining. Have a meal 3/4 into your night to slow down your absorbtion and give your body nutrients to repair itself with overnight as you get closer to being done drinking. Take a teaspoon of salt before going to bed, since your salt levels are depleted from drinking. Also take B vitamin supplements if you have them so you don't get the shakes the next day.
Overnight, keep a substantial amount of water next to your bed that you can drink if you wake up, because you WILL get dehydrated. In the morning, take some aspirin and an effervescent; alka seltzer works great for that.
It won't fix you up completely, but it makes you feel a hell of a lot more normal than doing nothing. Plus it gives you the ability to tie one on again the next day.
I have been drinking for years but now I get anxiety about the effects afterwards even before I start drinking my first alcoholic beverage that day. I get like really bad hangovers and high blood pressure, which really concerns me, even though I have already limited my alcohol intake substantially. I think I am going to quit alcohol .

Up until recently I was going through half a bottle of gin a day, trying very hard to curb it now for both health and financial reasons. Plus it was difficult hiding the fact I was drunk from my flatmate sometimes.
I find drinking helps me relax, and I enjoy things like music more when I have had a few. Seems I can think clearly and any issues have a logical conclusion or can be ignored.
I don't really get hangovers because I drink a lo of water before bed, but I do find it is hard to be productive the next morning after a night of drinking.
I am down to a beer or two a night now, usually just before bed. Long term aim is to not drink at all during the week and save it for weekends.
It is amazing, and alarming how quickly your tolerance builds up so I would like to get that down too.

That's how I feel a lot when I get really drunk, I think it has to do with the NMDA-antagonist effects of alcohol. It works almost like ketamine, but you'd have to drink way too much to start hallucinating and holing. I've almost gotten there a few times. I don't really like downers, so I either get absolutely plastered enough to feel the dissociative effects or don't drink at all.
