How does it feel being the board who saved 4chan culture? Your meme renaissance inexplicably got the rest of 4chan out of the ironic era at the sacrifice of destroying your board.

For that, the rest of 4chan thanks you.

True, but after poo poo pee pee you guys went nuts with OC. Not just shitty MS paint shit, actual artfags contributing. It had been years since I've seen such effort (excluding baneposting).

Understand that OC was shitposted on from 2009 to 2013. 4chan was memeaphobic and anti-fun. People from that era pretend they were only doing it for forced memes but the ironic shitposting ruined everything.

The truth is that it's all fucking stupid. The only reason the "unironic" era was better was because you and me were both probably idiot kids who had an easier time getting into all of the retardation. None of this was ever actually good, and only the dumbest of the dumb convince themselves that their memes are actually funny or that all we need is the oldfags to come back and that will make everything better. It's all shit either way and always will be.

unironic. apart from a savant or two who maybe saw the writing on the wall, everyone was sincerely laughing at that shit. crazy, huh?

To be fair it all had context, Longcat was just some guys cat and everyone was astonished at the cats record breaking spine.

This lead to shops of the cat being infinitely long and everyone had their fun.

Also remember that combo threads were acceptable back then, before moot considered it shitposting. Nobody realizes how all the little anti-shitposting tweks such as removing legacy timers and putting a timer on reposts really fucked up the older culture.

No, it hasn't. It never meant that. It's only what some newfags believe because they can't actually differentiate a tripcode from a name. They just see someone with an identification being called a trip (and insulted), and then they feel the need to copy that, without understanding anything about them.

First there was memes(0-level basic irony, memes don't refer to themselves).
Then there was irony about memes(1-level irony, making fun of old memes, not memeing by itself).
Then, now, we are in the memes about memes phase(2-level irony, now some memes make fun of other memes).

The reason dubs die was population.
Back then significant repeating numerals got your thread auto-stickied. 4chan was far slower then but the excitment of getting trips was retained as the population grew.

I'd also like to add that the graph is extremely wrong. First off, 4chan was never unironic. Unironic memery looks like Gaia Online in the mid-2000s. In fact, I would say that the "unironic era" on your chart was actually the post-ironic era. (4chan is full of smart people pretending to be idiots, remember?) And the example you gave for the "ironic era" is sarcasm, not irony.
>>
>>24815292
you're behind the times memesters

I've entered an era of new-sincerity

I genuinely enjoy old original overplayed memes now with no pretense
>>
>>24823095
>4chan is smart people pretending to be idiots

No one was pretending to be retarded in the unironic era and Gaia online was never unironic memery.

Gaia if anything was just stupid people unironically meming memes they didn't understand. Do you even remember why Gaia came here? Because they were the underaged and cancerous side of weebdom attracted to all the anime and japanese shit here.

If you were that one faggot who was ironically meming in 2003-2006 then I must say you were alone, everyone else was unironically meming.

>No one was pretending to be retarded in the unironic era and Gaia online was never unironic memery.

Nice theory, but here's an animation from 2004-2005 (Back when 4chan still took donations.) making fun of people who took it seriously.

The problem with your theory of unironic memes is that without any irony at all, old memes aren't funny. What's so funny about a picture of dick with MSpaint blue hair? What's so funny about a dude with a shiteating grin? Or saying tacgnol si gnol? Or spamming DESU over and over again?
>>
>>24824182

All of those were contextually funny the dick with blue hair is supposed to be Rei, the "best girl of eva"? We all know that kind of waifu war has been a thing for ages. So turning a cock into teh rei is hilarious, at least in context to how the meme started.

What's so funny about the Cock Mongler? The idea that he mongels cocks? it's immature but given the circumstances at the time it's still funny.

Desu was just fun to spam, the only humor it had was in correlation to the anime where it was from, because the doll would never stop using desu.

It wasn't ironic, no one was saying thinking "ha all this shit is so fucking stupid I'm going to pretend to enjoy it". There was no hatred of memes that would lead to people using them ironically in order to mock them, that came later when the greater internet learned about memes.

>Here's an animation

What animation, you didn't post anything?

4chan is definitely ahead of the curve. Even normies are starting to ironically talk about memes now, I hear people at my work, people who normally spend all day talking about sports and fucking calling things "memetastic" and saying "quality meme friend" to one another. Not only is unironic considered passe, irony and post irony have fallen victim at the same rate. The speed at which 4chan memes are reaching broad mainstream appeal is getting faster.
So go ahead, no matter what you do the broad masses will slurp it up and enjoy it, I've seen people laughing and sharing poo poo pee pee in public for gods sake. It doesn't matter how terrible or forced the meme is, as long as enough people spam it you'll see it on facebook and on stacy's new graphic tee in a month, not to mention all of that meme magic shit that /x/ and /pol/ believe in.

The thing that you newfags don't understand is that those memes that are cringeworthy now were funny back then in the moment

They were funny because they were original content that WE created as a community. They were inside jokes that were special because we were the only ones who understood them and found them funny.

It's never been about creating the top 100% perfect witty meme. It's about finding similar edgy, cynical jaded counter-culture people that hate the world and making fun of that world together.

But post-irony is even more ironic than simple irony. It's so ironic you can't discern between sincerity and forgery.

Right now we are in the middle of a battlefield, one side we have post-irony and its dehumanizing tendencies, the other side is new sincerity and its longing for meaning and nostalgia. I personally prefer irony because I see it as a authentic, inevitable conclusion to Western philosophical project. New Sincerity feels forced and unnatural.

Post ironic doesn't hate memes, the ironic era was about making ironic memes and acting retarded to insult memes and the people who enjoy them, as vengeance for the normification of 4chan at the hands of an expanding internet.

Post irony doesn't resent memes, it mocks the people who hate them and ironically use them to make a point about why you should hate them.

4chan seems to now integrate with the rest of the internet and it's no longer a secret club or people aren't like hurr fag you have a twitter. I was on arcanine before it got shut down the first time. It was kind of like the alternate /b/ and proto-/soc/.

It's a different culture, the rage is more subtle. The autism more subdued.
>>
>>24824159
double irony is irony done ironically. unlike post irony which intends to oppose it, double irony imitates it. yup
>>
So what kind of happenings have been going on here lately? I remember 2007-2011 there was always something. Lots of OC. Raids. Always something. Now there are some cool threads but nothing exciting

I don't even know what that does!
>>
>>24829756
its been a while since i used it, but if i remember right if you didn't add that in the options field, you would just be directed to the main board page and likely lose your hard-crafted thread.
>>
What the fuck is the difference between un-ironic and post-ironic?
>>
>>24829783
oh. Why the hell was it like that in the first place?

>>24829792
They're exact opposites: in the un-ironic era, people found funny things funny and enjoyed them normally/traditionally. Now, people find unfunny things funny and enjoy them in their own twisted way
>>
>>24829783
>>24829838
>There are people in this thread who never experienced the utter confusion of being a newfag on pre-casualised 4chan
>>
>>24829756

Back then 4chan didn't have a catalog or quick reply, you had to go through the pages and it was a bitch. Most people would just refresh page 0 and thus a lot of threads would die, which is why catalog is a godsent for getting your thread seen.

When you replied to a thread it would take you back to the pages rather than the thread after the post successful screen.

Meaning if you were a newfag you had to go find your thread again on one of the 10 pages.

noko in the email field (which is now the option field) would take you back to the thread after you posted successfully and was one of the many things old fags would try to keep secrets to make newfags frustrated with the board.

There was other shit in the email field that would do stuff, like Sage (post doesn't bump the thread) and Age(I honestly don't remember what this did). It was all a part of the futaba imageboard style.

>>24830002

sage in all fields was a newfag detector that became serious and then started the notion of visibly saging someone, because a normal sage would just make anonymous highlighted blue.

It allows a post without bumping, so spamming threads with sage would increase the post count without bumping and further it's death.

This became a mistranslated by some of the earliest newfags as a downvote of sorts, where saging would move a thread down rather than bump it to the top.

The [s4s] national soccer team played their first match on July 12, 2013, against the /gd/ board in the 2013 Summer Cup Friendlies. A total of 301 fans witnessed the new team go 3-0 down before Shrek grabbed a consolation goal, which turned out to be their first goal in their club history.

[s4s] met /b/ eight days later in another 2013 Summer Cup Friendly. The match, packed with action and butthurt on the /b/ side, saw [s4s] grab their first win in their history with a 1-0 win. Quads scored the only goal of the game, in the 22nd minute (>22 >dubs nice).

In the 2013 Autumn Babby Cup Friendlies, [s4s] travelled to /an/. Unfortunately, the [s4s] team were unable to stop the might of /an/, going down 2-0.

A week later, [s4s] met /fa/ in another friendly match. [s4s] grabbed their second win with another 1-0 victory, the only goal coming from Shrek in the 36th minute. The match will, however, be remembered for the goalkeeping feats of Doge, who denied /fa/ from the penalty spot after a contentious penalty decision midway through the first half.

[s4s] started their first cup campaign in Group E, alongside /pol/, /cgl and /r9k/. In their first game, [s4s] took a surprising 1-0 lead over /pol/ with a goal from Shrek, but lost the lead five minutes later to Jews. A Stormfront goal with ten minutes to play saw /pol/ take the points.

In their second game, against /cgl/, the s4squatches fell 1-0 down after a goal by Kipi, but Shrek equalised halfway into the second half to secure [s4s] their first points of the campaign.

Their third and final game was to be one of the games of the group stages, with an exciting 4-4 draw against /r9k/. After Robot9001 gave the betafigs a 1-0 lead after just two minutes, Shrek responded, before Kissless Virgin made it 2-1 to /r9k/. Shrek immediately responded, giving [s4s] a 2-2 draw going into halftime. Shrek then gained his hattrick and double brace by the midway point of the second half, and it looked like [s4s] were going to the next round. Sadly, two goals by Robot9001 sent [s4s] back to the provisionals and /cgl/ gained a 4-3 victory over /pol/, confining [s4s] to the bottom and seeing /cgl/ through. Shrek was undoubtedly [s4s]'s player of the tournament, having scored all their Babby Cup goals.

>>
>>24815577
Hey, so I was just sitting here browsing my computer, when I noticed your post. Now, it wasn't the post itself that was so interesting: It was the post number.

Now, you see, every post on 4chan has a unique post number. Yours was especially unique, however. Why, you ask? Quite simple, really: The last two digits of your post are the same.

When the last two digits of a post are the same, this is referred to as doubles, or "dubs" for short. By replying to your post and acknowledging that the last two digits are the same, I have "checked" your dubs.

I highly encourage you to be on the lookout for these "dubs," and to check them when you see them. There are even categories beyond dubs, such as "trips" (three repeating digits) and "quads" (four repeating digits). But remember that repeating digits are special. Always feel proud for yourself or others when you see them.

Categorizing memes is like putting a bird in a cage. That's why anonymous was/is cancer. That's why reddit is cancer. You so desperately want to label and identify yourself that you literally remove yourself from the ephemeral anonymous identity of 4chan in the process. Why can't you just enjoy whatever the fuck comes out of this nightmare machine for what it is? Look back on past shit and hate it all you want, it existed because it was funny to people at the time. People like you make shit stale and unfun. Like the kid who plays pretend but tries to organize everything.
>>
>>24829838
>Why the hell was is like that in the first place?
Back in 2007 when i first arrived here 4chan was designed to keep you from posting, the community would either abuse you, ban you or destroy your life. Its was a filter, little things like noko and sage were used as tools to boot idiots off the site. Its too welcoming here now, i waited 2 years before i posted and only now, 8 years later do i post regularly. Whereas new friends are posting within the fucking week because the internet culture has dissolved communities and respect on sites.
