it's good to have goals i'm proud of you dude

i'd like to learn a dead language desu. like ancient greek or something.
>>
>>24804007
Start with Latin. Ancient Greek is easier after you get a good handle on reading Latin.
>>
>>24803751
What's your country and native language?

>>24804007
Yeah, ancient languages are more fun because they're normie repellent. ("Why would you want to learn a language no one speaks, are you crazy?!")

I'd start with Latin before Greek. It'll help you understand English vocabulary more, and also set you up to study any Romance language.

So how hard is Arabic anon?
>>
Swedish will be extinct soon, replaced with Arabic.

is there a market for swedish translators? most of them know english
>>
>>24804137
Yeah, Scandinavians and Dutch speak English better than most native speakers.
>>
Japanese. It's making me extremely depressed. Sometimes I feel like my life would have been less shit if I never started studying.

Picking a language that literally hates you if you aren't born speaking it
why did you do that
>>
I picked portuguese. Best chicks I've fucked in a long time. Totally worth the time and effort (almost 0 since I already speak spanish)

It's not really that hard if you have a basic understanding of grammar first, and if you go about learning the kanji systematically and properly.

I mean, it's still hard, but not as hard as people say. At least you have a lot of high quality resources, and how many other languages could you study solely through video games, cartoons, comics and porn?

I love this show. Portrays women in the most realistic way possible.

Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian are pretty much just dialects of one simplified Latin language.

Like you said, the amount of effort for you to learn one while already speaking the other is not much at all.

Learning three completely unrelated languages like Korean, Russian, and Arabic is a lot harder, yet someone who speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian is considered just as linguistically gifted.

I was a teenager and I didn't know just how long the long haul was. Couple that with my shitty memory (chronic depression) and the suffering never ends.

Kanji and basic grammar are easy, I passed JLPT1 after studying for three years. My goal is to reach near-native level of proficiency, but every year it feels even farther away than it was the year before.
>>
>>24804405
Yeah, you obviously have to do real studying also, but it's possible to reinforce what you learned with anime or vidya.

Some anime is pretty serious and filled with advanced vocabulary and structures.
>>
>>24804439
Kanji are not easy, they're one of the hardest things about Japanese. But they can be made easier if studied properly.

Grammar isn't easy either, especially since it's sometimes simplified in an incorrect way, like telling students "desu" is a verb when it's not.
>>
I've been studying Spanish for a couple years. I want to live in Spain or South America teaching English and working as a translator. I'm already going to school for the teaching part.
>>
I'm learning Japanese
What are some easy to learn languages that isn't spanish?
>>

For a native English speaker?

Dutch, Norwegian, or Swedish.

Also Italian, French, and Portuguese are about the same difficulty as Spanish.

Saved this some time ago. Maybe it's useful.

Of course it all depends on your native language. These "hardest language" lists are incredibly skewed because some languages have more native speakers than others. I know they say that, but it's still worth noting.

You should also look at languages in aspects, some of the middle languages might be harder than the "hard" languages as far as pronuncation and grammar goes. For instance, Vietnamese has more tones than Chinese, and Finnish nouns can have dozens of forms.

Also as far as I know modern written Korean doesn't use any Chinese characters.
