I used to, then I got into data. I like it better and doesn't have dumb shit like rune pages and paid champion unlocks. I am also appreciating the map design, hero abilities, and itemization more.

It's really dumb. You get like, 100-200 ip per game and champions cost anywhere from 450 ip to 6300 ip and when a new champ comes out they're 7800 for a week. Also you have to buy runes that cost ip and it's just a fucking grind until you get all of it. Or you can just spend actual money and buy them and some skins or whatever

In league you have a rune sheet of like 32 runes or something, and the effects they give are actually really small but they make a BIG DIFFERENCE in your early game. If you're Ahri mirrored against Ahri, those Resist or mana regen runes are going to absolutely decide who gets to roam, barring Jungler giving blue to one side.
3 quintessences (Biggest runes) cost as much as a tier 3 hero (6300 IP) and the smaller ones can range anywhere from 200 ip to 500, each. and you are almost required to fill out every slot.
oh, and every champion uses different runes to be effective. Mana does nothing for Lee Sin, AP scaling runes do nothing for Talon, etc etc...

Runes are a costly stat power up that you can buy with Influence Points, a currency you acquire by playing the game.
The funny thing is that you can't straight out buy IPs, but you can buy a buff that boosts their drop rate. Sasuga jews.

for each champion you kinda need different set of runes which help you at the start. you also need pages to put those runes into. you start with 2 and you can unlock more of them.
you can call it paywall. you main tanky chars so you buy tanky runes which are useless for other roles.

I wish I could get into dota. I've tried so hard. I love Invoker's complexity, Meepo's micromanagement, etc etc... There's just something about it that can't keep me coming back, though. Maybe it's due to all the damn Russians, maybe it's due to steam being an awful platform and that 90% of my matches end with one team leaving after first blood goes wrong.
