Why is manga so much better than anime?
Because the only anime that get greenlit are simple shit like shounen/moe/etc. You have to remember many anime watchers think shit like K-On and Index are masterpieces. With manga you have much more artistic freedom, not to mention many manga are created by a one or two people, whereas anime requires a studio to produce.

Manga can be published by anyone, even people outside Japan, and the costs go all the way down to $0.

because it's more casual, and I don't mean that negatively. You can pick it up whenever, read however much you want, and drop it whenever. Reading a chapter of a manga takes anywhere from half to one quarter of the time it takes to watch an episode of anime. There's a shit ton of manga compared to anime so you can find something that fits your tastes perfectly rather than finding something that fits most of your taste.
