Is travelling considered a hobby if I really travel atleast once a year, and everytime a different country pretty far from home?

Also, I volunteer in an organization which holds parties in squats/warehouses throughout the city, so I guess that counts too.

>>
>>24709966
Reading isn't a hobby either.
>>

Reading, listening to music, watching movies and watching anime are not hobbies in my opinion. They are just everyday activities, just because you watch anime and most people don't doesn't make it a non everyday activity.

It's as if listening to popular music isn't a hobby but listening to Igorrr or other obscure shit is.

There are three kinds of hobbies everyone should have, whether you're NEET, poor, or boring:

PASSIVE: a relaxing alternative to just lying face-down on your bed. These are meant to either reduce stress in a familiar way or entertain. These do not require much effort to partake in and may even be used in conjunction with another, more absent-minded activity like eating. These include listening to music, movies, and walking.

EXPANSIVE: in which you intake or experience new ideas and concepts and broaden your depth of character. These are familiar to us as hobbies, but are more active than passive hobbies. Think of "experience" hobbies, like skydiving, surfing, or traveling the world. The line is drawn between expansive and passive when an activity has risks associated with being absent-minded, whether it is financial insecurity, injury, or death.

CONSTRUCTIVE: in which something new is created through both experience and talent. These are activities like music, painting, or woodworking. These activities are generally difficult to execute well and will require serious effort to develop proficiency in.

Now, some activities fall into multiple categories. Where does working out fit in? Is it constructive or is it expansive? Is reading Greek philosophy expansive or passive? The only answer is that they are both, but you should not rely solely on that hobby to fill both. In fact, avoid using a hybrid hobby to fulfill one of each, as it will rob you of picking up another hobby that you may also enjoy.

It is important to have one of each because, without them, you will sink into a depressed state.

Without a passive hobby, you will become stressed and exhausted and feel permanently disconnected with other people who engage in these hobbies.

Without expansive hobbies, you will feel stagnant, as if you do not improve or experience what life has to offer.

Without constructive hobbies, you will feel purposeless and lost, like you do not belong to this world.
>>
>>24712629
>Without expansive hobbies, you will feel stagnant, as if you do not improve or experience what life has to offer.
>Without constructive hobbies, you will feel purposeless and lost, like you do not belong to this world.

this sounds exactly like me. i hate everything though so i'll probably never change
>>
I really want to cultivate a creative skill that I can work on every day. Lately I've had this strong internal urge to create something..
>>
>have laundry lust as fat as my revolting ass of hobbies
>don't talk about them because I'm not a dumb faggot
>don't talk to people because I wish not for friends or lovers
You suck dick for asking or caring.
If hobbies are so great, do them instead of women.
>>
>>24709641
>if i brought in my [ ], you could fix it? ;]
>>
>>24712690
As far as expansive hobbies go, it's easy as hell to pick one up. Get a water bottle and walk into the woods. Congrats, you're hiking. Go to the library and get a book with a title you recognize, like Moby Dick or something. Congrats, you're well-read.

I can't speak for women, but I know as a man I have this jealousy when people can sing or play guitar better than me, or when people can draw better than me. That's the kind of jealousy that drives you into developing a constructive skill. What skills make you jealous?

What kind of things do you wish you can do? Because you can do them. I know it sounds cheesy as fuck, but really, when people say you can do anything, they're not talking about sprouting wings and achieving some indefinite dream. They're talking about how you are so damn free as an individual that you can basically do whatever the fuck impulse you want.

My g.f whos currently back home in the UK says I have PTSD, I used to work in a blast furnace and there was an incident that seen a few people get hurt/killed and I managed to make it out unhurt , dragging one of my friends who survived got injured quite bad. A lot of the dreams arent directly related to that incident but are related to different areas of where I used to work. Most of the dreams end up with me seconds from death then I wake up screaming please help me etc.
Sucks that my g, f has gone home cause she could calm me down quite well and we always had a private room, but now im back to shared dorms and usually wake up scared out of my mind to people loling in my face which is confusing and depressing

Pretty much anything can be a hobby just like pretty much anything can be art. The only argument that you can make is that consumption hobbies are worse than production hobbies but it's entirely subjective so it will never get anywhere.
>>
My main interests are foreign cinema and historical literature. I'm well aware that when you just say "films" as a hobby you imagine someone who goes to see the new Marvel movie every year or something like that, but I have a really extensive knowledge of it. My favorite directors are Bresson, Malick, Haneke and Herzog, but those are just the cream of the crop for me, I enjoy a lot of other directors obviously.

I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't call it a hobby, but it doesn't bother me. It's a passion I have and something I love, that's all that matters in the end.

You forgot one.
>have an intrinsic talent for it
People who can draw well practiced a lot, it's true, but if you don't have the genetic talent for it, you'll never be able to develop that skill. That's what practicefags will never admit, because they want to seem like they're 100% responsible for their skill when, in fact, they just got lucky in the genetic lottery.

How do you even know this if unless you found someone who's practiced for hundreds of hours and still drew like shit
>>
>>24712629
>listening to music, movies, and walking
These are about as much a hobby as video games and anime
So not at all
>>
>>24715545
People who don't have the potential realise that they don't have the potential. So of course they're not gonna practice for hundreds of hours. Would you practice breathing underwater for hundreds of hours? No, of course not; you know it's impossible for you, even though a fish is born being able to do it.
>>
>>24715694
Sounds like they're just lazy looking for a way out. There's no way someone can be shit at drawing after hundreds of hours of practice unless they have a legitimate physical or mental disability

They might be shittier than those with actual talents that spend far less time

>>24715734
Look at the other side of the coin.
Think of all the people you know who are good at drawing. Were any of them ever truly shit? I mean, irredeemably, horrifyingly shit? No, of course not. Some of them were kinda shit, it's true, but even their early drawings show potential, such as at least some ability to intuitively grasp the outside world and portray it. Those who don't have this intuition can't get it, because it's genetic. Simple as that.

I have seen several people who drew the equivalent of shit on toilet paper

You're not completely wrong in a sense though; people who drew VERY early on are encouraged. "Wow! That drawing is very nice!" when it's actually shit. But you don't know they're lying, so you try it more.
Or you're left alone a lot, or bored in class with no friends. You have a paper and pencil and nothing to do. You doodle stuff and immediately erase it/ put it away so no one can see it.
But occasionally you end up practicing enough or noticing some cool perspective thingie, draw it on paper, and leave it out for someone to notice...

"OH MY GOD DID YOU DRAW THAT???"
mmmmmmm validation from peers, such sweet nectar
"You're pretty good anon, you should be an artist!"
> Meanwhile it's a drawing YOU could probably make right this moment
You actually think you could become an artist, so any time you're bored/ left with nothing to do you default to drawing.

I've actually had a large gap in drawing, and seen some friends who don't regularly draw/ drew worse than me initially get waaaay better. Like, before they were drawing chickenscratch sonic fancharacters, now they're drawing stuff with real shading.

I've gotten back into doodling again; I've been inspired by a lot of stuff from One Piece. I like the goofy/ cartoony artstyles- stuff similar to Pokemon anime or Boku no Hero Academy.

Pic related is something I doodled recently and I'm proud of. I don't put too much effort into refining line artwork or making it great; I'm more of a concept person. THAT might be inherent in my nature, but I know very bland/ generic artists who are OBJECTIVELY better than me at drawing in terms of quality. They might not make something original or unique, but they can draw either realistic sketch portraits or draw really impressive scenes.

So my point is:
If you have an artistic talent, it could be wasted on you, like it sorta is on me.
If you don't, you can still make a career of it
>>

I work on being a better dom mostly, working on new rope techniques and learning new things to try. lots of mental sketches and trying my best to maintain and perfect my front so I can be better at what I do. I'm ridiculously one dimensional, almost everything I do is just to the goal of being better at dominating people. I think I might be autistic desu.

Not hi, but birdwatching isn't too hard. At it's simplest you can just buy a cheap pair of binoculars and a guidebook, like 50 bucks max, and go out and just watch birds. they're cool little shits and learning to identify them can be really fun. eventually you can get way into it and identify calls and memorize patterns and all sorts of stuff. i do it for fun on little nature walks, and when i go with other people theyre always amused by me pointing out everything like the turbo autist i am.

If you like doing them then they're hobbies Anon! I'm curious about what you produce, that sounds like a really interesting one. I collect records too, I think collecting can be really rewarding, especially when you can get use out of the things you collect. I'm planning to buy some tortoise records soon, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBD1jGdGFX4, I really love their sound. Do you draw porn? It's the only reason I could see myself drawing. And what do you wear? I'm a creepy fuck and wear stupid shit to get weird looks because it validates my general stigmatization as an identity instead of it being my fault. That sounds kind of mean but I really do just like wearing weird gothy punk clothes and such

My hobbies? Video games and anime. I also collect vinyl records (of anime soundtracks) and other anime merchandise.

The main point of bird watching is watching the birds anon, they're cool creatures. You never know what theyll get up to, the little finches and hummingbirds in my old suburb place would attack cats and dogs at random because they got too close to their nest, it was really cool to see them chase them away. And then their little social interactions, and the sounds they make. Suburban areas have tons of species you can watch, and they actually behave very uniquely because of the presence of humans. Good place to start learning

Im kinda basic right now, just some instrumental hip hop and a few mash ups. About to start working up to an Akai MPC Renaissance. I'm about to start working with a South Carolina rapper as well.

No, not yet at least, im still trying to get the hang of drawing

>What do I wear
Im pretty basic here too, I more or less like looking at fashion rather than actually wearing anything special, but I guess once I get a good enough collection I could get more into it.

Those are pretty nice Anon, not quite 200% nigga but some of them are really chill, Wander and Workings sound like something I could really relax to. Idk about that rapper but raps never been my thing, though I do like some more relaxed stuff.

If you drew that then that's pretty nice. Getting better before you start trying to fap to your work is probably for the best though. If you ever want to make money size content is always sparse and somebody will buy it for sure.

I'm trying to learn to sew and make my own clothes since most of the things I like to wear are overpriced and aren't really designed for my body type, so they fit really terribly. Sewing machines and fabric and such are really expensive though so I'm just working on basic stitching to try and build a base at least. I've altered some stuff for friends, adding pockets or fixing holes and can hem too so it helps save money and make what I do wear fit better.

Thanks for posting. I'm a shitty cinephile, but I take my consumption of culture fairly seriously (enough that I procrastinate it as much as the serious stuff...) and it annoys me when people think that all consumption hobbies are "passive" and "absent-minded" like everyone who claims to be into movies/TV is just getting high and falling asleep to Netflix.
