there are non-bishop mages that can use light magic offensively. in FE4, FE5 and FE8, regular sages could do it too.
also, the valkyrie class in FE8 used staves and light (basically mounted bishop w/ different stats)
archsage in FE7 (special class for a certain character) could use all kinds of magic

Ranger and Druid are the best classes, multiclassing in those would be good. I would live in a comfy cabin, grow my own food, and slowly have my forest expand. I usually play as healer/cleric since unlike most nerds that RP, I actually have a modicum of team-building skills.
But in real life, I'm some sort of dark wizard. Nobody understands what I say since my frame of reference is so different from the normie commoner. I live on the top floor of a crumbling abandoned building, traversing other worlds and communing with other wizards on my scrying liquid-crystal. Few mortals can detect the enchanted items hidden in my lair that give me my power, thinking they are just trash.

I really like bard, since there's a lot of utility involved. In DnD and Pf at least, you can heal, fight, and use magic. Given its to a lesser degree than the classes dedicated to them; but, it's ncie having all of those at your disposal.
