The Forest Service is hiring seasonal employees for the summer 2016. You could do something like silviculture and walk around the woods alone and collect tree density data or work as a wildland firefighter. I can almost guarantee that if you apply to enough locations you'll get hired somewhere. Just go to usajobs.gov and sign up.

This shit right here. I worked for a conservation group in the southwest US, then tried to get a job with a bunch of govt agencies in parks/land management. Over one hundred applications, shortlisted for one job, didn't get it. Forget it.
