another major problem was that games had bugs. tons of fucking bugs, and in a select few cases, it rendered the game unplayable at certain instances, or you lost all your fucking progress. guess what? gaming nowadays doesn't have this problem, because cartridges fucking sucked and if you were jewed out of your money for a broken game, you're SOL, and you didn't know when the fuck they'd start circulating a new cart. and don't get me fucking started on batteries dying in NES, SNES and GB games. if you're older than 18, you'd know this feel. but, again, this seems foreign to you

Not him but most people consider the current and previous generations to be the "modern" era of gaming. Many people would consider the PS2 era to have been an amazing time in gaming full of all sorts of unique, fresh ideas and tons of high quality games spanning practically every genre. Sure there was plenty of shovelware but we actually DID have the Internet and places like usenet or forums where we could discuss good games.
Now the indie scene has killed off smaller published developers, publishers want more CoDs with less Katamaris and every gaming community is full of people who are easily swayed by hype, including /v/.

Shovelware has existed as long as computer games have existed. Even on the Commodore and Amiga had shovelware. Shovelware has always existed and will always exist.
