I lived in New Delhi for between one and a half years and two. I'm white and didn't know anyone there before going for my first time. Now, in just under two weeks, I'll be back in South Asia for my fifth time in less than three weeks.
It has its upsides and downsides and is by no means a perfect or wonderful country. However, I like the place enough that I don't think having to stay there for the rest of my life could in any way be construed as suffering.

Living in India is honestly pretty great, provided you have money. The biggest frustrations I've had are just in relation to the culture and sheer number of people. For instance, trying to take a ride or commute on the Delhi Metro can be absolute misery around holidays or at rush hour. Indians have no patience or manners and you basically have to fight your way off rail carriages to get onto the platform and off to your next destination.
Other than that, I got used to the food and water pretty quickly. I never saw anybody poop outside in Delhi, although public urination is common off multi-lane roads and in open latrines in poorer neighborhoods.
You can get a really fucking amazing apartment in a safe, clean neighborhood for less than $500 or $600 per month. One of the flats I checked out last winter had two bedrooms, a wrap-around balcony on the top floor of the building, included furniture, and had great marble floors for less than $500.

Again, just depends on where you're at. The mind-blowing thing about India is how poverty and wealth can co-exist in such close capacity. My ex-girlfriend lived in a neighborhood called Safdarjung Enclave. Her block was lined with luxury and foreign-made cars. I think her apartment cost around a million American dollars and was worked over by a maid. Her family also had a chauffeur as well as another property in Vasant Kunj.
But if you walked for five minutes out of the A-Block gate, you'd run into a dirty, crowded road where pavement dwellers sometimes took baths in mudpuddles.

Bit of a long story. My first girlfriend was from Delhi, so the first time I went there was basically just for her. After that I left for a while, came back, and worked. There wasn't any specific purpose behind all of this, but it was fun and a good way to distract myself from university for a while.

Folks just weren't as outwardly friendly or helpful as in other parts of India. That's not to say Kashmiris were all bad or mean or cruel, but I felt much less welcomed there than I had in other states before. The fact that I was in the Muslim part of the state during the SIege of Gaza in 2014 probably didn't help.
I mean, stuff would just happen and some people would have a peculiar or passive aggressive attitude. When I went hiking in the mountains, I was told by a number of young people not to tell strangers that I was American. I also had a couple of mountain guides treat me like shit until I asked them for a Qu'ran, recited the shahada, and pretended to be Muslim.
Yelling "salaam aleykum!" at everyone I saw helped out a lot, as it does in most Muslim areas anywhere in the world.

Bogota was quite alright, my friend. If my understanding of the situation in Colombia is correct, very few foreigners have been kidnapped around the country in recent years. However, you really do have to take precautions in regards to safety. There are a lot of nighttime muggings, but you can minimize your risk and losses by using common sense. I never had anything bad happen to me, but I did meet a few people who had been robbed at gun- or knifepoint.

Most of the Muslim-majority countries I've visited have had extremely hospitable, kind, and generous locals. It's just a part of the culture. Unfortunately, it doesn't excuse a lot of the backwards attitudes and mindsets held by many, even if they treat respectful foreigners well.
