What are some well-paying jobs where you basically don't have to talk to anyone and can internet while you work?

Also work-from-home is a plus.
>>
I worked a security job for a bit.

Barely any talking.

You just go on the internet your whole shift while doing drugs.

Most IT jobs that aren't entry-level service desk stuff are like this.
>>
I work for the County. I spend probably half of every day browsing and shopping.
>>
Would you like room service too?

Programming. I work from home, set my own hours, and I never ever have to face-to-face anyone. It's the best thing in the world and I feel as though I entered cheat codes for life.
>>
clinical research associate. Basically you review and compile information. Very solo job, but it requires traveling

except you have to do annoying math daily, right?

picking cotton. Nigger

Can I do this with just a minor in CS?
>>
>>24639838

I have a couple questions:

Did you go to college or are you self-taught? Freelance or do you work for a company?

I've been thinking about getting into programming, that sounds like a pretty sweet gig and programmers make good money to boot.

I've posted before, get your waste water operators license. All you need is some basic math and chemistry. Take the test for the combined license (industrial and municipal), preferably a grade 4 (grade 2 is easier, but you'll probably just be a maintenance guy).

The median age for operators is in the 40's so a young person has a real advantage. Power plants, factories, hospitals, etc. all need an operator on staff if they treat water, have oil/water separators, or discharge into the POTW.

I got lucky and landed a gig at a municipal plant, night guy. Just me, 5 10 hour shifts. I was told I could do anything but sleep. I make my rounds every 2 hours, takes 20 minutes, check gauges and shit, occasionally grab samples. The rest of the time I have my laptop with movies and music, and I brought in my old GameCube. If something breaks, call the service company. I get to shitpost on 4chins for $27 an hour. Going for my grade 6 test soon, that should bump me up to $31 - $33.

wfh gigs are hard to get though.

into the trash it goes
literally every programming job requirement is bachelor degree in CS, not to mention some employers want 5+ years of work experience

apparently this isnt a thing in bongistan

this is a great gig , my dad works for the state , cali, and i ask him how many crossword puzzles he completed at "work" whenever i see him
>>
>firefighter in a small suburb
>sleep during my 2 weekly night shifts, maybe get one or 2 calls a night for some minor BS
>just hang around the bay for my day shifts
>on the engine so dont have to deal with medicals
>been doing this two years only been to like 3 or 4 serious house fires
>40k a year plus tons of bennies, pension, union membership, and a raise erry year
>the other guys here are old and have families so if I want any overtime I can ALWAYS get it
>"worked" 82 hours last week
>Most were spent sleeping and watching TV
>mfw the paramedics works harder than any of us do and make 11$/hr no bennies

Self-taught. I freelanced my way into a position at a company where I can work remotely. I still have other clients I do work for as well.

>>24639982
I dropped out of high school, man. The beauty about programming is that it's based on skill and experience, not so much a degree per se. You could be doing this now if you wanted to.
>>
IT. I shitpost on 4chan all day and occasionally reboot a computer
>>
>>24640356
Did you program as a hobby for a long time first?
>>
>>24640356

Nice. How do I know when I'm ready to start applying for a job? I also heard that you should make a portfolio for yourself.

I'm deciding between starting college or learning code
>>
Start up a porn site. Easy to start up and easy to manage. People will come as long as you keep up a constant stream of new content. I used to do this with a friend. I would download tons of javs, chop them up by scene, and then he would host them on his website. We made a nice lump of cash for almost no work

Yeah, I was a complete autist about programming when I was younger. I would skip school to program, but this was before web / app development. Once (modern) web / app development came into the picture, I jumped into that since the work is faster and there's a larger pool of people looking for it. Everyone (as in businesses) has or wants a website these days.

>>24640540
Yeah, make a portfolio with your best work. It's tough to get started if you don't have any work experience, but if you work for someone else that's freelancing as well, it makes a world a difference. You'll get loads of experience doing this and you can add those projects in as well. (Just give credit where it's due.)

I would highly recommend learning how to program. You can always go back and do college after you've saved up enough money (if you want to at that point). I never did and I'm doing extremely well for myself. You just gotta keep your eye on the prize.

>learning how to program

what do you recommend starting off with?

more info

please

Not him, I'm the other anon who was interested and asking questions. Check out Codecademy, I've used it a little bit and it's pretty good, it's what people on /g/ recommend. Hope he comes back with more advice but if not then you should go there!

>>24640812

Thanks a lot for all the replies friend. I'm going to make a thread on /g/ asking a couple questions, I'm glad you typed this up because a job as a programmer has always interested me.

Look up jobs in your area, make sure people are hiring before you begin. Schools offer courses, usually a week long thing, or one day a week for 5 weeks. You'll get the study materials and learn how questions are formatted, and the course (if its from an accredited school) will count towards your continuing education requirements. Set up your test at a local testing center (mine was at an H&R Block), and take the test. You get your score right then. If you passed, send in your application with the motorized copy of your test score, wait 6 - 8 weeks for processing and your license back.
