It's bittersweet. The fact that it's so difficult makes it so desirable to beat.

Yes it's a very good game especially if you enjoy challenge and atmosphere.

what are you and how did you get here
>>
>>24602815
Sure it is, the whole salling point is about how hard it is and how dying has consequences, which is all half true.

Like all modern games, you have infinite lives and there is no Game Over screen. The catch is that when you die you lose your "souls" which are both the in-game currency and your experience points for leveling up. You have once chance to get them back but if you die again while trying to retrieve them they are lost permanently.

There are no quicksaves at all, like with Fallout where you can just die and reload from when you entered a building or something and try again, the game rewrites autosaves and your physical progress in the game's map can only be saved at bonfire. So if you travel far away from your last bonfire and die (which is foten the case with boss fights), you have to travel all that again and fight all the enemies again.

Another feature is how tough even the enemies are, even rats and skeletons nevermind the bosses, and have as much of a chance to kill you than you can kill them. Once you learn to stay in enemies' asses and manage your stamina it's more about patience.

overall, I give it a fun/10

it's a game where you go on a quest.
if you actually want to go on a quest in a kingdom then play the game it's atmospheric and fun.
>>
>>24603354

I'm also gen X and totally agree.

It boggles my mind that there is a whole economy based on watching SOMEONE ELSE play videogames.

Okay Grandpa, it's like a radio show but also with a television's moving pictures, on your computer screen.

So you never went to an arcade or like a Sear's department store or even a friend's house to watch other people play since you had no money or didn't have the video game yourself?

Great lore, great atmosphere and solid mechanics. Don't listen to the 'its soooo hard' meme. Its pretty easy once you learn the mechanics. It's one of my favorite games for sure

I watch Game grumps unironically
Its essentially part of my daily routine, and I'll rewatch game playthroughs
>>
>>24603937

Point taken. I did go to arcades with limited funds and watched my cousin play pinball because he kicked ass.

It just seems more cold and distant when you're watching someone through a screen who isn't really your friend. But I guess as progress marches forward, more and more is experienced through a screen.

>>
>>24603937

Yeh but im old and all these youtbers are fucking stupid little idiots who spout non stop crap and id rather gargle shit than listen to their immature nonsense.

so fucking glad no record of my life 14-25 exists online. millennials are all gonna be suiciding when at 40 they are going for midmanagement roles and their life is on youtube.
>>
>>24604185
Same. I'm only(??) 30 and did/do both. We still had arcades when I was a kid and I rarely had enough money to play for more than like 15 minutes a week so I'd just spend the rest of my time watching the good/wealthy kids beating everyone else at Mortal Kombat.

My parents wouldn't buy me a Nintendo or Genesis or anything when I was a kid so I went to some other kid's house to mostly watch him play and wait my turn, and whenever my mom would take me shopping somewhere there was usually a Nintendo on display with like 5 other kids waiting in line to play for a bit.

I do watch some gaming youtubers, but it's really mostly just a way to find out about obscure games and see what the new & popular ones are like. Sometimes it's to see how better players have strategies which is the case with things like e-sports.

I've never sat through an entire 15-part 40-hour playthrough, because I've seen all there is to see after a couple of hours, but apparently millions of people are.
>>
>>24604366

Haha to your second point.

I cringe hard when my dad takes out old VHS tapes from my childhood. Just imagine when those little shits are our age and wanting to suicide over stupid youtube videos they made when they were 15
>>
>>24603883
Except it isn't like that at all. It's like having a very boring person give you their diary and asking you to read it.
>>
>>24604584
>watching someone play a video game is like reading a book

I think there's a few loose ends and holes in that analogy.

I sort of get what you're saying, social media and all, but most teens on youtube are really savvy & aren't putting anything "questionable" out there and are doing it to get a head start in the entertainment or even media industries. Some of them are self-made millionaires and bypassed the traditional Hollywood & TV cat & dog show.

They're not going to kill themselves because an employer looked at videos of them from 25 years ago which I don't even know would still be around anymore.

Reviewbrah doesn't put out any questionable content but goddamn it hiring managers my age are going to look at that and perceive that something is seriously wrong with him and that he gives out a creeper vibe and maybe he's the type to shoot up a workplace.

>but most teens on youtube are really savvy & aren't putting anything "questionable" out there and are doing it to get a head start in the entertainment or even media industries.

Twitter and instagram and facebook and snapchat and vine and omegle and every other social media app/site are a whole other thing though. People get especially stupid on those, but not so much youtube.

Eh, he kind of looks like a person that is going to snap at some point.

Anyway, you get the feel from his vids that you probably wouldn't want to work with him.

My philosophy is that companies can't dig up what you don't bury on the internet.

I quit my current playthrough when I lost like 200k souls and 9 humanity in the catacombs, I was at the jump to the great scythe but died falling to vamos

At least DS2 has like 5 different rings of no-death where you don't lose anything or even really technically except the ring breaks instead and you can just repair it for only 3000 souls.

or was there a ring like that in the first dark souls?
>>
>>24605546
yeah ring of sacrifice and rare ring of sacrifice, but they were only usefull for the forced death on seath

otherwise people just used havels ring and FaP ring because you only had 2 slots (occasionally different rings for pvp)

People never used the rings because it's easy enough to get back to your souls in most spots, but stuff like blighttown and catacombs are just retarded occasionally
>>
>>24605517

I hope we bomb your country.
>>
>>24605654
>but stuff like blighttown and catacombs are just retarded occasionally

I think the most frustrating deaths were trying to make the jump to what's-his-face Aye Siwmae who sells boss armor and hung out under the bridge in the starting area.

Jumping on time was the hardest boss in that game.
>>
>>24605732
If your weight was below 25% it wasn't too bad, I did die a lot mid-rolling because that jump is stupid

I've beaten Dark Souls about 50 times, including a few Soul Level 1 runs. I have every achievement.

It's the only game I can play for more than a few minutes these days.

Lordran is like home, to me.
