It completely depends on how you present yourself. I see people alone in bars all the time. If you are young/ awkward looking and alone then going to the bar might do more harm than good. If you have a basic level of confidence and you can remain relaxed, then you might have a good time alone at a bar. not only because you might very well talk to some people, but because you'll feel like you belong.

Ive done it too many fucking times. Most people will think your a fucking weirdo unless you immediatly start making conversation with the person next to you. The notable exception being the true dive bar, in which case nobody gives a fuck and is just there to get drunk, feel less alone, and maybe score drugs or fuck some random roastie.
Depends on the bar. Ideally you'll want a dive but of sorts but hipsters think it's cool to hangout here and smile with their friends these days.
I was in such a bar a few weeks. I could spot 5 other men sitting alone. The blues band were pretty good. No one dancing, just loners tapping on the bar to the rhythm. Then a bunch of normies come in. Their lead male starts bopping his head in a patronising fashion. I wanted to glass him but I don't want a criminal conviction.

I've been out on my bike and will stop at a bar on my way back for a beer. Then again I know the bartender so I guess that doesn't count.
