No, I'm not Canadian.
Hours are long, "undpredictable," and it's tough to strike a work life balance.
I only say undpredictable in that I work on an extraboard and that you are on call. If you use your head and know what's going on, you can find out what they need to call and know when you'll be working. For instance, I worked last night from 10 in the evening until 8 AM. I know that they're going to need to call that job again tonight and that I'll be rested and very likely to be called for it.
You can plan around it, a bit, but you can't make long term commitments for the most part. You kind of live day to day and your cellphone is your worst enemy.
