I decided I needed to show my family what I spend most of my time doing, so I gathered them all in the living room telling them I wanted to show them something. I told them it was the website I have been spending a lot of my time on for past few years.
"It's called 4chan.org"
My brother piped up saying "Isn't that a gore website?" I laughed and told him no, saying it's an adult oriented image board for many types of people with many different hobbies, and that the random board, /b/, was the board he was thinking of, as that is the board that the site gets a lot of its reputation from.
I went on to show them all of the different boards and said that there should be a board that everyone should find interest in. When I got to /r9k/, I told them that it is the board that I frequent the most, and that's it's mainly for introverted people like me.
After finishing with the boards, I went on to teach them 4chan lingo and memes, such as 4chan's definition of "autism," "mfw," "tfw," "normies," "REEE," Pepe, Wojak, etc.
I also told them to go read some articles about 4chan on Wikipedia, KnowYourMeme, and maybe EncyclopediaDramatica to learn a little more about 4chan history and culture.
Finally, after teaching them the basics, I sent them off telling them to read up and to give some boards a browse whenever they have time to see what they think.
I feel it went generally well, and hope to see the results of efforts soon. Has anyone else done anything like this?

I read some of my favorite /pol/ posts to my old, conservative, Jewish mom. She thinks it's dumb.
I have one close friend and we often talk about life and shit and I always say stuff that's very true even though he knows I have no experience to back it up. He always asked why I knew so much and I told him "cause it's just obvious shit" or "I'm just smart", but one day I told him it was because of 4chan. He seemed interested so I told him that once you get past the weeb shit and ironic shitposting there's deep and profound content.
He probably came here and saw nothing but dicks, porn and internet slang he's never seen before. We never talked about it again.
I'm never going to do this, but avoiding mentioning 4chan sometimes gets annoying. At one point my dad was asking me what I do online out of pure curiosity, because I talk about a lot of stuff but don't usually say where. And when I have sources he understands that a lot of the time I wouldn't just be randomly finding that shit, there must be some kind of aggregator site leading me to that content. If he knew about 4chan, I think he would probably surmise that I go on it, but I'm not sure if he knows much about it.
