Why is 2007 widely considered on here to be the year everything started going downhill?
Because there weren't threads being posted 24/7 asking why 2007 was widely considered to be the year everything started going downhill.
We don't. It was 2010.
I was 17 and the entire world made sense.
the first Transformers movie had come out.
Halo 3 was fun and fresh and I played with friends.
Mass Effect was a good game.
I was doing really well in school.
I had friends that could drive, my accessible world expanded beyond this town.
I had my first beer.
Era Vulgaris, The Reminder, and Strawberry Jam came out.

now what do I have? anime? shitty video games? an alcohol addiction? a useless degree?

Here's what it boils down to:
- When you are new here, everything is exciting and new.
- Over time, the effect starts to wear off and you become accustomed to the regularly of it, like jacking off.
- You end up wanting more and hating what's on it, similar to the porn you regularly watch. Which is why some people "explore" new territory.
The words "blase" and "cloy" made their way into the dictionary for a reason.

if you want an actual answer outside of the retards and newfags who don't understand the question, it's because in 2006 4chan blew up and was divided and the userbase split due to the extreme newfaggotry that was coming in due to media attention and raiding, and the sheer amounts of new users coupled with the cultural split created massive amounts of cancer and people who could not assimilate
raiding itself wasn't the bad part, shit like habbo and other dumb internet pranks are mostly harmless compared to how much faggotry the news put on the site. you had a unique website with it's own culture and ideas that was on the up-and-up get destroyed by it's own userbase and popularity
Anonymous as a hackitivist or collective was being established and the divide that created it and was left by it also helped ruin the culture and cohesiveness of the site
2006 started the downfall of old 4chan and 2007 was the last good part of it. by 2008 /b/ was unbrowseable and everyone was more obsessed with pretending to be an oldfag instead of admitting fault and trying to improve and create decent content
also lurk the fuck more this is basic fucking information
