Also keep in mind that the current dichotomy of "right wing = Christian Conservative values, left wing = le atheist fedora" is not set in stone and is only a couple generations old. The Christians voted Democrat and were with the unions/labor movement in America up until the 60s.

Seriously though, I haven't encountered anything like the gnostic gospels in Judaism or Islam. I mean I don't research either religion as much as Christianity, but I still have a hunch that Christianity is the only Abrahamic religion with a super freaky, absolutely bizarre, inverted weird streak that happened within the first 300 years of Christ's passing. The religion lost the hippie-dippie god's-not-our-only-god/god-is-also-a-woman-sometimes weirdness when it was slowly adopted by the Roman Empire. But that was what Christianity looked like when Christ left this mortal coil.
So...sorry conservatives. Try not to think about it too much, yeah?
