Grandparents are all dead as of two years ago. The last of my extended set of great aunts-and-uncles also died recently, so that elder generation is all gone now, by my reckoning.
What's left are the parent's generation (the elders), my generation (cousins, all married except me and mostly approaching full adulthood/middle age), and the offsprings of the older cousins in the previous group. I don't think either of my younger cousins (the ones to whom I was closer) has reproduced yet. No siblings of my own, I'm an only child.
All the family is on mom's side. Dad's dad has been dead almost 40 years, and his mom was the last grandparent to go. There is one sister, an estranged lesbian who lives nearby. Dad had one final piece of business with her about a year ago and I live closer to her, so I took it upon myself to scope out her place once and open up/verify her mailbox.

And, of course, I would get the "what are you doing around the house all day, anon?" comments even when I was in school and working part-time. Because unless you're not working 60 hour weeks killing yourself, you're not a man or something.
My father has more than once told me once of the single best Christmas day he ever experienced. It was after he'd moved to a new city for a job, as a bachelor. He tells it like this:
"So I was the third shift radio man, and it was the early morning hours. I did my shift, which was basically changing tapes out and then the periodic weather report from the feed. So my shift was done, and I went home and slept right through the middle of the day. I got up that evening and didn't have to work the following night, so I went to the gas station and got some beers, took them home, drank them all by myself with a little TV, and went back to bed. I interacted with maybe two or three people the whole day, and did not speak with any relatives. That was the best Christmas Day of my entire life."
That story is so good that I think I'll have to ask him to tell it again tomorrow.
