My dad does the same thing even though I try not to talk to him at all. He's always drunk so he just rambles, repeats himself, talks in circles, and I have to grunt every once in a while so he can pretend he's having a conversation (if I don't grunt, he asks me if I'm listening etc).
I don't want to complain about this because a lot of people hate the fact that their dad drinks because he whoops their ass. I'm glad he's not abusive, but I wish he'd just shut the fuck up. I don't even like having normal conversations with people let alone having to deal with that bullshit.
My dad is a university professor, so usually when I ask him about something he knows a lot about it degenerates into an hours long lecture.
Not that I mind that.
