It's great if you have niche hobbies. Sometimes I want to discuss guitars or cooking without the discussion devolving into how the Jews are manipulating the media into making white women breed with black men to destroy the white race.
Also the content is more diverse and it's easy to filter out what I don't want to see in terms of dank may mays and such.

Reddit essentially has the same structure as a certain chan. You can make your own "board" (subreddit) about literally anything. The main issue what makes Reddit unappealing is because the bigger, more generic boards like /r/funny, /r/gaming and /r/sports are filled with underaged pseudo intellectuals. Simply avoid those subreddits, and stick to smaller, more specific ones instead (such as subreddits for a specific game, hobby or geographical location).

Any specialty interest subreddit under 10k subs is usually pretty great and because it's one of the most popular websites in the world, they aren't dead, like their equivalent forums or 4chan boards.

But in individual subreddits, content is usually really good. Like I'm subscribed to /r/PublicFreakout and I can see daily videos of autists acting out in public, or choose to see all of them ever posted ranked by rating.

You are right. The difference between 4chan and Reddit is very much like the difference between IRC and e-mail. So i like them both, because e-mail allows me to keep up long term, and irc allows me to kick back and have a quick laugh or a feel or a wank.

Because it's the best place to get news or info about games and stuff. It has persistant threads, so if I want to know about a new bug in Binding of Issac or something I'm more likely to find it hanging out in a topic there than on 4chan. The fast board of 4chan is great for discussion but not information storage.

I never got this meme about the layout of Reddit being "shit" or "confusing." It's a lot easier to follow conversations there than it is here, where everything is just dumped into a single thread with numbered post links requiring mousing over to follow anything.

As others have said, while its generally pretty retarded, at least the threads stay on topic and there usually some reasonable answers with a bit of effort in them. It's really the niche boards that make it what it is, where a lot of the older user base hang out.
I like /r/spaceengineers, most users there are fairly intelligent and give you great advice or help with coding.

I almost never go on Reddit unless I'm absolutely bored out of my mind, but someone on /sp/ told me a long time ago that trolling the sports subreddits (or for that matter any of the big subreddits that hipster wannabees frequent) is something to die for. The sheer satisfaction of seeing that downvote counter spiral out of control as hundreds and hundreds of people go the extra mile to press a button to express just how buttaggravated they are at your post can be unparalleled. Especially because of the hive mind nature of the site. The best part is, the site is apparently ran like shit just like Twitter, so it's very easy to get away with trolling over and over.
As for the actual content, I guess if you're a normie you might like it, but more seasoned people will not really find anything useful on Reddit, at least that's been my experience from going on /r/mapporn. Speaking of porn, browsing porn is pretty awful on Reddit too, which I'd say is my main deterrent from defecting to there.
