I just bought a piece of land and I'm getting ready to live in a 96sqft shed as soon as it stops snowing. I'm going to renovate it into a mini-cabin with solar power before I move in. Plus it's tall enough for a sleeping loft to maximize space. Best part is not having any neighbors to piss me off. I'm preparing for maximum comfy.

I want to live in a small apartment by myself and pay rent.
I just need a car.
>>
>>24507838

It really is. I lived in a big city, and didn't like it so I left. All I did was tell the apartment I wouldn't be renewing my lease, my boss that I quit, and I drove to another place to live. What could possibly be preventing that? Even if you're on parole you can freely move within the state, just let your master know and it's gravy.

>>
>>24508283
What are your renovation plans? I plan to build a small house ground-up within a few years (gotta get a job that pays me more than the bare minimum I need to pay rent first.)

Biggest questions are plumbing and insulation; where's your shit go (did you pay someone to hook it to the grid? Leech field? Tank?) And are you just putting up fiberglass or styrofoam on the inside, just swallowing the fact that the entire shed is gonne be a foot or two smaller in every dimension?

I'm asking because I love hearing what other people do and why, the more people I talk to the less stupid I can make my own plans.

>>24508326
Get a shitter fan, I've lived in a room where the bathroom was basically just a closet off to the side. Turned on the fan and my room never smelled like my own shit.

Cheap Walmart candles go a long way too, the berry/fruit scents actually cover stuff (as opposed to that "Calming Ocean Breeze" shit that doesn't even do anything but look pretty.) I started burning candles all the time when I lived with a stoner who worked warehouse labor and showered about once a week, and they went a long way towards covering that too.

Not the same anon, but I lived in Dallas (with the grandparents, in a six-figure-income neighborhood) and that's not true. If you lived in the city your whole life you sorta get survival into your subconscious. Coming from a small town I never developed a sense that said "don't walk down that dark alleyway at 2am," because back home that was fine, and hell you might see a couple of your old HS buddies hanging out back there. In the city you've gotta watch that.

My uncle got shot at because he cut off a couple urban youth on the freeway (showboating in his Mustang, to be fair) so they decided to show him who was packing. Fortunately he was in a goddamn Mustang so he got out of there pretty fast. My mom can drive me around her old neighborhood and point to where murders happened when she was growing up there.

It's definitely a sense you gain, that "don't do stupid things in a city that will get you killed" sense.

I'd use one of those incinerating toilets. They close up and roast your shit whilwhile venting outside. No smell and easier plumbing. Just run that shit to the yard. It's grey water. A little soap and pee won't hurt the yard any. I'd run mine to gravel under the walkway for further no problems.

I think people usually design and build these themselves. Instead of 7' ceilings like normal do 7.5' or even 8'. I'm 6'3 andand have been playing with designs. It's the perfect house because they are tailored to exactly what you want, down to every last detail, and cheap too. If you do it all then it's under 10. Rent a Mexican for roofing day though. You can diy but it's hard and dangerous. Two people will get it done about 4x as fast as one person. Everything else is easy though.
>>
>>24509264

I was just looking at this sort of stuff

I'd be okay with living in a studio or a loft or something for cheap. I'm cool with paying rent. I just want to live by myself in a cozy place like that.
>>
>>24508458
I don't understand. Normies sure as hell don't want me to break free from the program and live on my land, but I'm going to do it anyway.
>>24508499
I'm a scrawny manlet. I love being in close quarters and it's going to be comfy as fuck for me. Obviously I'm going to be living alone and would hate to live in a tiny house with another person. I'm going to have my dog, but I like being close with her.
>>24508502
The land is 15 acres for $10k. The shed is $1k, but will need a lot of work to make it livable, so add on another $1.5k for everything. Another $1k for necessary (compact-sized) appliances. I can probably get away with a $3k solar power system, but I might need to add onto it later. I also had to buy a truck for $4.5 because the location is off grid and obviously I need to haul shit to/from the land. So altogether right around $22k. After that, the only thing I need to pay for on a regular basis is food, water, an internet hotspot, and gas/maintenance on my truck.
I wageslaved for a couple years while living with my mom, so I could save around 50% of my checks specifically for this. This is my dream I've been working towards and it's finally getting ready to come true.
>>24508847
The entire point is to leave materialism behind. I'm sure as hell not going to bring that bullshit with me. Especially these days where everything is digital. All I need is my laptop and I have a near infinite archive of movies/tv/music/games/etc for entertainment. Not to mention the fact that it's not in a city, so I can actually enjoy going outside just to dick around and look at the stars, etc.
>>
>>24508995
I'm actually going to have a composting toilet, so I can use my shit as fertilizer. I want to start a small garden so I can eat healthy while living off grid and eventually want to escalate it so I'm growing the vast majority of my own food.
I'm probably just going to deal with fiberglass insulation, but I've seen this shit at home depot that needs much less space. I know it's probably a bad idea, but I think I'm only going to use like half the insulation of a normal house. The area where the property is snows, but it's in the southern US, so it doesn't get down to extreme temperatures. Not to mention the entire thing is ridiculously small compared to a normal house, so it's not going take much to make the whole thing nice and toasty. The only plumbing I'm going to have is basically just going to be a hole in the shower that lets me collect the wasted water so I can use it for my garden (I'm going to use natural soaps so it doesn't hurt my plants). My drinking/cooking/bathing/etc water is going to be stored in a large water tank and when I need to shower, I'm going to fill up one of those shower in a bag things you use while camping.
>>
>>24509631
eating your own shit unironically

lmao
>>
>>24509698

You don't eat it, that's gross. Incinerating means it burns. You put it in the garbage. I checked the laws and it's legal provided it's completely burned up. Otherwise just dump it out in some corner of the property. It's just ashes so it will wash away.
>>

>>24509815
Composting toilets aren't incinerating toilets. I'm actually going to make use of my waste instead of just burning it.
>>24509845

Like I said, I'll make a thread eventually, but it might be a while.
Besides, I'm sure there's plenty of anons here who already live off grid and just don't bring it up because there's simply no reason to.
>>24510619
That sounds pretty comfy, anon. I was thinking about living in a motorhome or van before I realized how much more comfy I'd be if I lived off grid altogether.
What do you actually have to do when you work for the rv park?
>>
>>24509631
Ok, so your plumbing stuff is super bare-bones. It sounds like you're talking about an outhouse situation, then?
>shower bags
Any plans on heating that? Are you thinking some serious bare-bones showering, and just heating ~5gallons on the stove before you want to shower, or just gonna swallow it and take the cold shower? Personally, showering is the big thing I'd need plumbing for, call me spoiled but a life without a warm shower is not a very comfy life for me. Still, I guess it's always possible to add stuff later, huh?

I'm curious, have you priced your converted-shed plan against building a home from scratch? If you already have the shed I guess it's a sunk cost, but I've looked at it a bit and it's not too big a difference cost-wise (sometimes more expensive) to buy the shed/trailer and convert it.

Also curious, are you thinking longterm you'd start building a second, more professional-level house on the property? It just sounds awful Spartan to live in a place like that long-term, not to mention (yes, I know which board I'm on) that it sounds like it's essentially resigning yourself to a life of never bringing a woman home.

Working for the park I mostly general grounds keeping lots of mowing and raking. Along with other odd jobs around the park fixing stuff

yeah the bus has been my daily driver for a few years. I'm a mechanic but just doing odd jobs while im trying to travel. I saved up for a while and got the rv off craigslist for $8500 its 1993 pace arrow runs good only 70k miles

Not cold at all if windows are closed I'm guessing. This isn't cave man days. We have double and triple windows now. I like the cold though and sleep with the windows cracked. Maximum comfy getting under 3 big blankets with just my head sticking out.

do you guys not have those super insulating windows? they literally stay not-cold on the inside in winter here.

Yeah, I'm really just going for the bare minimum just so I can escape this society. I'm sure that kind of life will get tiring and I'll eventually add more amenities when I get the money for it.

The toilet isn't going to be an outhouse, it's going to be inside. They make composting toilets that keep the smell to a minimum.

I'm going to heat the water on the stove before showering, but to be honest, I don't mind being a little dirty. Showering isn't going to be high on my to-do list while living like this, especially since no one else but my dog is going to be around. I'm not going to let it get to the point where it affects my health, but people definitely bathe too often these days and I'm going to probably shower only like once a week at most unless I get noticeably filthy.

I haven't priced the shed vs. building from scratch. I'd feel much more comfortable to have a base to build off rather than build something from scratch. I'm somewhat of a handyman, but I've never built something this big and I'd much rather bite the bullet on price to make sure it doesn't collapse while I'm living in it.
>>
>>24510872
>>24511316
I honestly have no clue what I'm going to do in the long term. I have plenty of property, so I might end up building something bigger and better. That being said, the entire point of me doing this is so I can escape society's system and not have to work a job just to keep living. I find the idea to be in such a small place to be comfy anyway. I really just want to clear my head of society's bullshit for a year or two and see where my life goes from there. Hell, I might even decide to come back one day, I have no clue.

Obviously as I robot I have no chance with women anyway and never factored one into my lifestyle. I really just want some alone time anyway. To be honest, I don't think I'd ever be able to find a woman I like enough to live with anyway. I know this sounds like sour grapes or /r9k/ misogyny, but I've never met a woman with whom I could have a meaningful conversation. I have quite an eccentric personality and just don't click with most people, male or female, anyway. When I'm horny, I jerk off. I have my dog for companionship. I really just don't see the point in bringing another human into the mix when it's just not necessary.

>>

Northern Arizona. Absolutely gorgeous area for cheap as fuck. Mild weather year round. It gets a little warm, but not nearly as bad as the valley. It snows, but it doesn't get blizzards. No natural disasters like tornadoes/earthquakes/etc happen there. I have no idea why it's not a realty hotspot. There's a couple big-ish cities that are expensive like Flagstaff and Prescott, but there's still plenty of little towns with cheap property and few regulations on what you can do with it.
>>
>>24507623
That actually looks like all the space i would ever need. How much would rent be for a place like that in IL suburb.

Wagekek here, I don't understand what you would do all that time? Like before I finished my degree, all I would do was eat, fap, and watch MTG vods. Obviously gained a lot of weight and now my dick doesn't work properly, and I was absolutely miserable. Lived off my rich parents who gave me money.

Once I started working I became much happier, even though like all wagekeks I hate getting up, and now I own every mtg card I want but with no time to play etc etc etc

Wash your feet/underarms/balls with a soapy rag every day or two, or they'll start to get pretty disgusting, just a damp rag with soap or something.

>more comfortable having a base
I get it. Before I started homebuilding professionaly, I'd've said the same thing. Personally, after doing so, I know how easy and cheap it'd be (for me) to build a a foundation and walls/roof for something that small. Way easier to do yourself as a second-house sorta thing, when you'd already got a place to live in, though. I don't know what job you are, or NEET, or anything, but if you work even a few months part-time in residential construction it might give you some good ideas/inspiration.

Anyway I'm off, adios chums. I love these threads.

You're not the first person who asked what I'd do with all my time and it still astonishes me every time someone asks me something like that. People are such slaves they really don't know what they'd do if they weren't working for someone? I was absolutely miserable having a job and I don't see how anyone could actually like slaving away like that.

When I'm living off the grid, I can do anything I damn well please. I want to take up gardening so I can grow a lot of my own food and obviously that will take up a lot of my time just in itself. Plus, I'd need to can all my produce for long term storage, so that's a process in itself once everything is grown.

Then I could always build stuff. Make some tables, chairs, benches, whatever for inside and out. Whittle some figurines for the hell of it. Smoke some weed, get drunk, do psychedelics. I'm going to have an internet connection, so there's always going to be plenty of books to read, movies to watch, music to listen to.

Not to mention that I'm actually going to get some good sleep. Take naps every day, like every other animal who's not a human slaving away. Even if you get the recommended 8 hours of sleep (which I sure as hell didn't as a wageslave), you're still pushing your body more than you should. It's not natural to work yourself so hard like we're encouraged to do.
>>24511518
Yep, sponge baths were part of my plan to maximize water usage while keeping myself mildly clean.
Yeah, it really would be nice to build something from scratch. Maybe I could just test it out after I'm comfy and don't have anything else to do. If I fuck up, I can always just keep living in my shed.
Later man, nice talking to you.

I'm working on getting me a little house either in the woods of Washington state, the upper peninsula of my home state, Michigan, or in a rural area outside of Toronto.

Something tiny, heated by a wood-burning furnace, and no real frills other than a good entertainment center for vidya and my music. I'll go out hiking in the forest until I find a place to sit with my guitar, some grass and a tape recorder for when I feel inspired.

I don't care about having nice things, so I won't have to work much, just enough to pay for my house, a car that can deal with the snow, and vidya every once in a while.

It'll be a while before I have enough saved to get it in motion, but I have a clear goal, and I know I can do it.
