It means medium heat. If you have number settings for heat, it's the middle one. If it's symbols, then the medium size one. The size of the hobs relate to the size of the pot/pan you're cooking with. If it's a sauce, it's a small pot, if it's pasta or veg, it's a pig pot. If you're frying something, use a pan, etc, etc.

I was in Dresden a couple of months back, the first thing I saw was a huge anti-islamification march - got some weird initial vibes from the place.
